Update 1
Live from today
Dear Prime Member,

As we invest to improve our Same-Day delivery service we are writing to let you know about an update to the Same-Day delivery options available for Prime members in eligible postcodes.

The majority of Prime members currently receive most of their Prime orders with One-Day delivery, while free Same-Day delivery can be manually selected for eligible orders.

From 18 September 2023:

Your Prime Same-Day or Overnight (Tomorrow by 1 PM) orders over £20 will automatically be delivered to you using the fastest available option, at no extra cost. This means that where available, you will get eligible orders delivered for free on the same day or by 1PM the following day, depending on when you place your order.

Eligible Prime orders under £20 will continue to be shipped with free One-Day delivery. Where available, Same-Day delivery can be selected at checkout, but there will be a fee of £1.99 per delivery for orders under £20. The fee for customers who are not Prime members will remain £5.99.

For more information about Prime delivery, please click here. You can manage or cancel your membership at any time by visiting your account.

We hope you continue to enjoy your many shopping and entertainment Prime benefits, including Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime Gaming, Prime Reading and more.

Thank you for being a Prime member.

I can't even get anything next day. Everything on Amazon today is for delivery Monday.

Looks like they have stopped weekend deliveries here too.

I fell out with Amazon about this earlier this month. My monthly Subscribe And Save has been the 6th of the month for 2-3 years now, and if it hasn't been delivered on the 6th it's been because it's been delivered a day or 2 early.

Cue this month, I'm going on holiday on the 7th, and they decide - without telling me - that they're delivering it on the 7th rather than the 6th! I just found out by chance on the 5th. Had a lengthy chat with their 'customer service' who denied this was because the 6th was a Sunday and ended up telling me to cancel my orders (all 10 items) and buy them elsewhere locally or online. Not an option for that delivery but guess what I'll be doing going forward!

We’ve just cancelled our Prime as delivery was fast becoming two days, not one day, and certainly not prior to 1pm the next day never mind same day. Likewise S&S was shipping and arriving on random days when it should have been arriving on the 12th.

If everyone pays the same then they should get the same service for their money!

All you need to do (if you have the time or inclination) is to complain via Chat that you're not getting the service you paid for. They will 99.9% of the time give you a no quibble £5 voucher which automatically comes off your next order.

I complained so often (not for the voucher, they were genuine complaints) that they swore blind it would never happen again. They put a flag on my account according to them, saying they would "guarantee" never to miss another scheduled delivery. To be very fair to them, it's been probably 2 years and they've been on time with every single order. We get daily deliveries from them, and I am also a Vine member so have to order a minimum of 200 items per year

Remember that there was a promotional period several years ago that one would get purchase credit on a future order for opting for a less expeditious delivery. And it was unlimited. (edited)
    LaurenceGough's avatar
Yes that was the best, I do miss that a lot and I think they should have introduced that again - more eco friendly too... but I don't massively miss my prime subscription these days...
  4. richteabiscuit's avatar
That's about the same day they massively increase seller fees so expect a lot of price rises as sellers are forced to pass the costs on to customers.
  5. kev_koc's avatar
I live in NI so there's no such thing as same day delivery, or access to many items... Despite paying the same price for a limited service
    Shenx's avatar
    Yeah rip off
  6. iduno87's avatar
Never had the option for same day or by 1pm next day....

You need to live close to the Amazon warehouse. For some orders, if I place an order before 2pm (I think) I can get the same-day delivery.

It was always a bonus same day, never really expected it anyway when they started doing it.

Next day has always been normal and still faster than a lot of places.

It did tend to be the cheaper items (slightly more expensive than a shop) that I ended up getting same day and only becausr it was offered, so on top of the 1.99 there'll be the difference in store price too so it'll just mean a trip out to get them on some items if I need them for something. If it saves a few £ on shop price and a 1.99 charge on top. (edited)

Prime gets less and less appealing as time goes on
    CynicalNurse's avatar
No it doesn't. They're added a tonne on since it started, video, music, ebooks, deliveroo etc.

Bearing in mind.everyone on HUKD is a student you get a lot for £5/month. (edited)

    Seems fair enough

It's good that same day is becoming the default option, but this additional charge if under £20 is disappointing. Big reason I valued Prime was getting things delivered same day when I needed something last minute, most the time it was items costing more than I could get it elsewhere but the "free" same day delivery justified it. With this £1.99 charge, far more incentive to go to a shop where item is cheaper to begin with. With the increased fee, £9 a month for "free" next day delivery and Prime Video is more difficult to justify for me.
    e_aussie's avatar
Yea if one has a car. But for me in London with no shops nearby and no car it's either breakeven or more expensive to take the tube plus the effort for a item worth few pounds. It is a shame that the increase in membership leads to losing features. But to be honest I hardly used same day.. Maybe once or twice when it was really needed same day.. In most instances next day is fine. But that's just me.
  11. Lady_Luck's avatar
Never have much same day, but the overnight by 1pm has come in really handy several times.
Bonus is in my area by 1pm is always delivered to me by 9:30am.
I rarely order over £20 so it is dissapointing to have what amounts to a cut in Prime benefits. (edited)
  12. mastablasta's avatar
Can we cancel prime and receive a refund as they have now changed their terms?
    Dusty666's avatar
I cancelled as they missed about 14 deliveries. They could not find my new build even though many other retailers had no problem. I even supplied what 3 words but that made no difference. I imagine you would be able to, if they have changed the terms that you agreed too.
  13. ffa1's avatar
They're a bunch of rotters essentially.
    banana4life's avatar
Should they just give a service for free then?
  14. Gazfaz's avatar
It took many many years of dogged work by campaigners to get good customer service in this country. Since COVID this service has been trashed. Companies these days seem to think WE owe THEM a living rather than the other way around. It seems mad that a company that charges a subscription for a premium delivery service now charges you on top of the subscription to deliver.
    whats_the_deal's avatar
    What campaigners were these
  15. Jon_Red's avatar
This wouldn’t be an issue if they hadn’t raised the price from £79 to £95. It’s a big deal. (edited)
  16. theshabster's avatar
It's a little disappointing, particularly the overnight by 1pm being included in this new charge too.

As a Prime customer who is not eligible for these benefits as i live in the wrong post code, i am glad they are charging those who are and not blanket charging everyone for this service and putting the Prime prices up yet again.
    dorito's avatar
"...and putting the Prime prices up yet again." - Don't worry, they'll be doing that too - it's inevitable.
  20. AngryCoffeeTable's avatar
You would think that if youre paying some £95 per year for a premium service that you wouldnt be required to pay extra for deliveries. It just seems very counter productive if you wish to keep people subscribed to the service.

Its not worth the money even if you do use the streaming part of their services.

Unless you buy everything off amazon. Maybe it would be more worth it in the long run just to cancel your subscription then just add a few small items to make up the cost for free delivery if you really needed something.
  21. Florencethedog's avatar
Its a shame they don't bring back the no rush delivery where you got a £1 credit, but the item arrived in 3-5 days.
    davej1710's avatar
Agreed, although Tlthat was just for extra busy periods like Christmas & Black Friday a number of years back, & only for a limited period.
Think they struggled to get stuff out at the time & overloaded but now sorted.
Think much of my stuff came within a couple of days anyway, some even next day.
    Oh the good times.
  22. saintscouple's avatar
Doesn´t say how they are investing this £1.99 charge to improve same day deliveries - hopefully more items will be eligible. That way it will be easier to find extra items to make the £20 spend.
    scuttle's avatar
    Good one
  23. tnm1975's avatar
Already pay for this service with Prime membership, it's somewhat disgusting to then get charges on top. In my experience the majority of same day items are smaller items less than £20 so they know exactly what they are doing! Amazon prime is being eroded to near pointless. Amazon prices have skyrocketed over the last year and most thing are to be found cheaper elsewhere now. Next day delivery has become 2-3 days in many cases. Prime video is utter bilge. Amazon? Amacon!
  24. Nigel_Tufnel's avatar
Not really bothered, most of the time my stuff is over £20. Prime benefits do seem to slowly eroding, like the Amazon Fresh delivery charge changes. (edited)
  25. Rik_Powell's avatar
Unfortunately this is what happens with a monopoly... Amazon do not have a competitor.
    Nigel_Tufnel's avatar
Yes, no-one else sells stuff online, lol.
  26. PS5's avatar
    You guys are crazy.
Amazon have improved further from free next day delivery to free same day delivery as long as the order is £20. What more do you want?
    Jon_Red's avatar
Erm for them not to have raised the yearly subscription from £79 to £95? :/
  27. sandman2012's avatar
Anything Under £20 they are charging £1.99 delivery .they will get a lot of cancelled memberships for that one.. not worth it any more..
    Lee_xqZ's avatar
I don't think that is the case is it? It's only £1.99 if you want it delivered on the same day. Prime orders under £20 will continue to be shipped with free One-Day delivery.
  28. ADOX's avatar
Yeah I didn’t renew my Prime after having it for years cause of the large increase.
May take it up again in the future but I’m happy enough without it. It was a huge jump in price.
    Shenx's avatar
Just sign up for a free month in July get prime day if you have something in mind ( one a year)

Or just save the items in basket till you hit 25 for free delivery (edited)

    Prime is useless
  30. crack_shot's avatar
lets be real. bezos put everyone else to shame with prime
I don't like it but no one else comes close anyway
  31. Melbury's avatar
I didn't even know that they offered same day delivery. Surely this must only be available in cities?

I always think next day is brilliant.
    CynicalNurse's avatar
Nah, we live 80 odd miles from the nearest warehouse and get same day. It is delivered by gig economy people in cars rather than vans.
  32. roguess's avatar
This is just the next notch of amazon increasing cost and reducing service. Why give it away free if ppl will pay for it?

Always compare prices elsewhere, amazon arent always cheapest anymore.
  33. noahsdad's avatar
Thanks for the info. Dissapointing considering never had a same day delivery or even an option for me. Not like I live in the Shetlands either. Always assumes it was just London or something.
    Batfink30's avatar
You can get it in Glasgow and surrounding areas so not just London.
  34. DanglePlums's avatar

  35. jimbo23's avatar
Same day used to be an option for me, now it doesn't seem to exist so meh.

Customer service has gone down the toilet too.
  36. ChildofChaos's avatar
    This is ridiculous.

Amazon can't even offer next day on a lot of stuff anymore, yet for orders they can somehow do quicker, they want to charge extra, where is my £1.99 credit for all the orders they deliver beyond the 1 day shipping that they promise with a £95 annual charge for a premium delivery service then?. It really is a joke, amazon used to be decent, but like everything it seems, it's going into the toilet. (edited)
    oidarwazeh's avatar
I mean you get a streaming service with it too. It's still value for money. If you add up how much you've probably had delivered, and factor in average delivery costs. You've got your money's worth in 12 months.
  37. mark6220's avatar
It's still an absolute bargain. Same day never bothered me. I never used it even when available.
I have found amazon delivery to be generally superb.
    duncan.ireland's avatar
Yeah but you're paying more for a poorer service.
  38. TeamMCS's avatar
Shame. Same day delivery before 2 is pretty sweet but yeah, I guess it's not sustainable, especially for low value orders.
  39. dcx_badass's avatar
A lot of stuff I find isn't even next day anymore the timing on this is fine for me as my Student Prime ends in September and no way is full price worth it so I was going to let it expire anyway.
    Bendown's avatar
I shall be cancelling next month, had prime for years but on 3 occasions recently I have had to wait weeks for refunds, in 2 cases I have had to get irate with customer services, not really got that trust in them that I once had and now I avoid buying anything expensive from them that may need to be returned. I never use the streaming services so I am just paying for the delivery, on a lot of things items are available cheaper elsewhere if you are prepared to wait a day or so.
  40. hukduserr's avatar
for two decades, i have been wondering how amazon does next day delivery. now it is going...
    doppo666's avatar
It’s taken you 20 years of wondering how Amazon deliver, you know you could of googled it or researched it at any point in those 7,300 days of wondering and anguish
