ID vs Three

Posted 17th Sep 2023 (Posted 17 h, 13 m ago)
I’m looking to possibly switch to a sim only deal with ID or take out a contract on an iPhone 15 pro with an ID sim from a reseller haven’t decided which way I’m going to go but I definitely would rather pay ID’s prices over Three

Both use Three network but I’ve heard stories online on Reddit mostly saying that Three might prioritise there own customers signal over ID. I was always led to believe this isn’t true. Can anyone clarify if an ID customer will receive the exact same signal as a Three customer.

The deals with ID on sim only are much much better than Three

Thanks

Cancelled an ID contract that was posted here 2 weeks ago.

Virtually zero signal where it was most needed.

    Switched over to Voxi. Perfect

Tbh, I think you're taking a somewhat inconsistent approach here, in that you're happy to buy the most expensive (and arguably best) device on the market, but want to run it on the worst network through the cheapest mvno. Why not spend the extra to run your phone on a network which gives you better coverage, speed, reliability, and customer service, like o2 or EE?

Move to another carrier that might give me worse signal? The coverage checkers aren’t accurate either and I get 4g/5g every day. Why gamble with another carrier when I know I get signal where I am

Bear in mind Smarty is owned by Three, ID is owned by Currys. It wouldn't surprise me if the network operator prioritised their customers first, then other MVNOs afterwards, but not sure if this is the case here

See this is what I was wondering but I don’t know if there’s any truth in it

Take a look at Smarty as well, also Three network but better value.

Personally I'd never take out a lengthy contract without first checking the network via a 30 day sim.

Will do. Should of said it’s 1 month rolling contract. I’m currently out of contract paying monthly with three. £24. Same allowance with ID is £15. Can get it even cheaper if I don’t do unlimited data which in all honesty I don’t need. Just like having it

My personal phone is with ID. My work phone is with 3. When they're working they both get nigh on the same speeds.
I find the 3 network problematic and find myself with 0 data on both devices in a lot of areas. Checking the service status usually shows supposed upgrades in the area forcing local masts to handle more data (6 months).

ID customer service is all online and is pretty horrific.

Roamed in Spain for free with ID.

I have been with ID for the last 2 years (iPhone 13 contract) but now that is up I have gone for buying the 15 from apple directly with the 24 month 0% payments and got a O2 sim for £8 with 20gb that gets doubled to 40gb because we have virgin media, and comes with 3 months free Disney.
Can chop and change the O2 offer as often as we want after 1 month and can almost guarantee there will be an offer with more GB come Black Friday.

I am currently using Id with an unlimited plan (Google pixel offer) and it has been OK but not great. If you live or work when you can get 5g, it is actually fast. But 4g or h+ is normally the opposite experience. Wifi calling helps tough and free roaming is a pretty good deal if you travel a lot in Europe. (edited)
