Minecraft server

Hi

Does anyone know much about Minecraft? I only have Minecraft Java but my nephews want to play on a minecraft server (they only have android tablet and android phone versions and PS4 version) so thought I could get one, but do I have to pay for it? I'm guessing I have to buy Minecraft bedrock for Windows, I have Minecraft on phone and tablet (on android) but I'd rather play on PC. Is there any way I can get a free server for Minecraft or do I have to pay monthly?

Thanks

You can run the Minecraft Bedrock server software on your PC, for free, if it can handle it.

You might need to setup port forwarding if you want people outside of your network to connect. (edited)

And ideally, get a static ip address, although dynamic is fine if you don't mind communicating the change every so often to your teammates.

Minecraft servers are typically hosted in the 'cloud'. Most you have to pay for, but believe there's at least one free vendor. I'll have to ask my lad!
