Unfortunately it doesn’t have any noticeable improvement in image quality. Zoom and ergonomics are advantages though.

Oh well if the title says so it must be true! (excited)

the title says it is.

Easy - better for stills. Has a flash, easier to hold as a camera, has zoom. Probably better lens and sensor, which is essential when it gets darker, like at night or under water.

So, can somebody explain why would you choose this instead of some GoPro-like camera?

Great shots. Never knew it had a macro mode, I’ll have a look at mine today

Had this for about a year and a half . Nice little camera that feels good in your hands. Battery life is very good but would highly recommend one of the battery and charger packs you can pick up on Amazon, it means you won’t have to wear out the connector on the camera. As people have said, the zoom is great, well worth the money.

Great little camera. I bought one 4 years ago, thought I’d broken it within weeks, only to get it up and running again this week. Really good macro mode which I’ve been having fun with the last few days:

If you’d rather not purchase from Curry’s it’s only £1.38 more from Camera World.

Excellent camera with brilliant live viewfinder and 30x optical zoom. Glass by Leica. Nuff said. Remote control via app.

Really good deal. V happy with mine. I paid about 100 quid more than this last November, albeit with both this lens and the 12-60mm kit lens included.

It's possible some other retailers might release new deals tomorrow for the weekend. They'll do well to better this though

Thanks. That might be long enough. I had no idea there was a bank holiday until now, though!

Probably just the bank holiday weekend.

Would anyone know how long this offer is likely to be on for (obviously excluding the possibility of it going oos)?

Thanks both for your advice

Removes the dilemma of whether to take the plunge for me at least (lol)

Up to £799 now, which was still considered a 'deal' price recently but there are currently several places to pick one up for that price. That wasn't the case yesterday though, so still not a bad price if someone was looking to buy.

Best camera I ever had and at this price it is superb. I have a feeling they are clearing stock for a new model to arrive. I might by a second body near October before I go (hopefully) on Safari again. And indeed the new FW is superb and added most GH5 features to the G9.

if you get one update the firmware as lots of extra options. Also look at some of the kits e.g. with Leica lens, extra grip, batteries etc. it's a great camera, love mine.

The G9 doesn't have a flash right?

Just upgraded last month to the G9, however I still love my G7, built like a tank and with the samyang 7.5 gives me a nice small work tool. Shot on a G7 in March

Castle cameras has the G80 for 499 £40 saving. Still a saving. Also Park Cameras have it too

G80 is definitely the better camera but I haven't found it for less than £539 for the same kit. Is it worth the extra £140 or is there a better price out there for the G80 (UK dealers only)

camera came early this week looks good, realised though i already had the lens on an old oli.. any ideas on where is best to sell/trade

I don't think any manufacturer will announce any new models any soon, the interest is low and there is no real need for new cameras at the moment. The gx10 was supposed to be announced the first half of this year, but seems everybody keeps quiet. There is no clue was going to happen, and the camera shops trying to survive and keep business going, offering some good deals.

I was just assuming the gx9 stock didn't sell well during the best of times and retailers were trying to make some quick money during this period. But we are overdue for an upgrade so you might have a point.

Noticed that Wex have the same deal with the lens and battery (at £449) but they are stating next day delivery. I assume we are going to see the gx10 announced shortly as this seems to be a Panasonic drive to clear stocks.

still waiting on update, consider cancelling as was expecting to be despatched on 12th and here this week

Fabulous. This is what this should have cost at release. If you're getting it principally for video, look up the "4k crop" issue to see if that would bother you - the higher-up G9 and the previous edition G80 do not have this problem. Panasonic Lumix G90 + 14-140mm Lens Excellentt deal includes 5 years warranty.

The main benefit of moving to M4/3 is for size and weight. Lenses in particular are lighter and smaller in M4/3. The G90 is one of the bigger bodies while the GX9 uses the same sensor but is smaller. For me, M4/3 is good enough. My Fuji APSC had better picture quality in low light but it was a much bigger package and the lenses were more expensive.

It does depend on the use case. It looks like Olii only takes one sort of picture - so yes an APSC system built around that would probably make more sense. Infact im thinking eyes/full face is more a full frame thing as bulk wont matter and you get the full sensor goodness. However cameras like the G90 are the superior hybrid. They do everything really well and have the lens's to back it up. I had no interest in MFT either but the more i use it, the less im using APSC.

Thank you. I dont know much about cameras but photos on Canon 70d looks better than on 700d. So i was thinking to buy 70d or 80d. I see that 5d takes better than 700d as well. I just takes eyes photos / full face.

Why move to a smaller M4/3 sensor after you're used to APS-c, specially a big heavy one like this G90? Still images won't be better than your existing Canon and DOF will be worse. The only reason to buy the G90 would be for video but I'd rather get a Fuji or Sony if I wanted a good hybrid all-rounder.

Thanks a lot. Images are good with 50mm lens.

This is the biggest version of the "Apple Watch" I've seen. Need a very strong wrist to carry this on it. Also I don't think I'll get much "protein" from eating this but hey I'll try anything once.

Really good camera. Shares the same sensor as most of its wayyyy more expensive cousins. If you need better battery life, a better grip and weather sealing, you could probably get the more DSLR-sized G80 with the 12-60mm for £550 or less. Otherwise this is a good way to go.

Ordered! Thank you. This is a great deal especially with the free goodies and a £135 lens. Will work nicely as a B-cam to my GH5.

Lol. You might have a job explaining this purchase away as even mentioning some of the plus points over the D3500 like the 4K QFHD video, built-in WiFi, touch screen LCD and dual IS are unlikely to impress the O/H when she sees two cameras and the credit card statement. Good luck with that.

Food, Bills, Charity, NHS, PPE...?

Erm. It was the best thing in its day, and since most progress has been piecemeal since, it's near enough the best thing now at current prices. Wait, am I talking you out of it? You know you could get a mortgage holiday without affecting your credit report due to the Rona, so the first month of that pays for this...

Great find. Mine arrived today, came in the orginal box and looks new. Bought as a replacement for an aging Panasonic TZ6. Way more functionality.

That’s good to hear, I thought it may have been just me.

I stopped expecting any sort of decent CS from Curry’s / PC World a long time ago. They certainly aren’t one of my go to retailers any longer.

I absolutely concur. I had 2 other TZ's before we bought this and the quality and picture quality are not as good as the previous models. Personally, I will not buy another TZ after my experience with this one. Very sad as I really liked them.

Just to update: TZ80 arrived today, box was undamaged, everything was wrapped up. Camera looks brand spanking new, cables and battery were still sealed. All accessories, manuals etc present, it's like a brand new camera. Couldn't be happier with the condition. Now I just need a spare month or so to suss out how to work it (lol)

Wife had the TZ-70 and was not impressed with focusing, etc. Camera was damaged while on holiday by Deet spray on hands (markings came off buttons) so bought a TZ-80 to replace. Whole different ball-game - excellent spot-focusing and video. Maybe it was the operator but one happy owner now. I also have a TZ-80 now. All bought as refurbs from Panasonic - looked like new.but in tatty box. For info, other camera is Nikon D5100 DSLR with 18-300 lens. Both have their good points so we choose according to the situation.

Very tempted. Cheers...

Got it thanks

I use the Samyang 12mm f2.0 prime used off ebay. It manual focus but that isn't an issue when it is that wide as everything beyond a few metres is hyper focal. Very high optical quality lens with few aberrations.

Not the previous poster, but here's a couple of good choices. 25mm for general shooting, 14mm for wider angle outdoorsy stuff. Panasonic 14mm f2.5 Panasonic 25mm f1.7 I don't own the 14mm so can't give it a firm recommendation, but I use the 25mm a lot and think it's essential.

Can u point me at the prime lens around 150 please

A bit old but see this is on that dpreview list :

It's a sort-of optical zoom, I absolutely love how they do it, which is to put multiple sensors and lenses of different focal lengths on the phones and use a controlled digital zoom to step seamlessly between them as you pass each focal length. Apple does that the best at present due to the ridiculously good processor and some smart programming, but others are catching up for cheaper. Some of the more wacky chinaphones are putting 5 lenses on there.

I'm looking to upgrade from a Lumix G3. I don't really take video, use the camera more for stills. Is the G7 the way to go? Or shall I look at something like the GH4? Unfortunately a G9 is a bit out of my budget range at the moment :-(

Sorry gents, didn't check inbox, for photos I mainly do interior shots and multi fisheye panoramas so I use a samyang 7.5mm and the Lumix 7-14, I also use the Lumix 25mm and the kit 14-45 for video. I am trying not to get myself the g9, trying to resist.

I have a G7, G80 and GH5 (plus a GH2 that I intend being buried with!!) The G7 and G80 are very similar as far as image quality goes, but the G80 has great IBIS and is weather sealed (if you use the right lenses). Three hundred odd quid is a good price for a G7 body, although realistically it's not worth a whole lot more. Lenses will add a few hundred more onto the price (for kit or basic primes) although an alternative would be a cheap adapter (not a Metabones!) and some old legacy lenses.

That is a superb deal. I did consider an import but being my first decent camera I bottled it and bought from John Lewis at the premium. Agree it's a good camera for its price.

The G80/G85 is indeed better with IBIS and weather sealing. Without wishing to crow (!) I bought a new grey import G85 from eGlobal for £270 in November. It's a very capable camera.

I had 3 TZ models, first one was better (in my opinion) than the last. Now using, when I get a chance, Sony.

Plenty of features and reasonable spec (at least some of it) but 1/2.3 sensor? that's pretty bad.

The old one probably didn't have a 30x lens or video(?) but was better in other respects. I'd say they've added 'features' at the expense of quality. This one is pretty big - much bigger than those early metal bodied ones.

Has the Tz series got better, I had some years back absolutely aamIng then I upgraded and that model was dire.
