DJI Mavic Pro 4K Aerial Drone Fly More Combo - Platinum at Cleverboxes for £1039
Found 22nd AprFound 22nd Apr
I couldn't find it any cheaper elsewhere.... bought one... but knowing my luck, they will come out with a newer one soon enough at a better price... :-)

What extras does this ship with? There is only one picture of the drone itself.

Ignore the cold votes - they are meaningless. If it was a £50 drone with £10 off, it would probably be voted hot. Many see the Mavic Pro as an old model because there has been so much talk of a Pro 2 coming that everyone is expecting for these to be given away but DJI are smarter than that. If you are a newbie, I would suggest lots of practice in an open space with the drone at least 20 m above anything around you. You will probably have your first "hard landing" when you get over confident. Don't try flying indoors and don't fly around the outside of your house if you have any neighbours. It can **** them off. None of my neighbours even know I have a drone. Practice return to home so that you don't worry about losing the drone.

Thanks Eagerbeaver.. I am a bit of a newbie with drones so any input is greatly appreciated.. still, I don't know why its been voted cold

That's a really good price for the Platinum. I've had both the Pro and the Air and to me, the Pro is by far the better machine. The controller is better on the Pro but the main thing is that the noise from the Air is really intrusive. Even at 50m from passers by, you can see that they are bothered by it whereas the Pro doesn't even get noticed. The Platinum will be even better with this regard. The range on the Pro is better which you may not think is important with the UK flying guidelines but it means you can fly in areas with interference with more control than with the Air. Picture quality was probably about the same, side by side, maybe the Air is slightly improved but there's nothing in it really. Yes there have been rumours that a Pro 2 is around the corner. Clearly DJI have the new model ready and are just looking to time the release for maximum income efficiency but if you keep waiting for the better next model, you end up waiting rather than using your drone. I suspect that a Pro 2 will be about the same RRP as when the Pro was launched so more expensive than the deals available on the Pro at the moment.

I cancelled it before it was dispatched when i found out about the warranty situation. DJI said that alot of people have purchased through tobydeals and their units was genuine albeit a Chinese version which isn't covered under EU warranty. I would have less concern ordering a mobile phone or camera lense from these sights as they are less likely to go wrong but the way i saw it was that to get a 2 year warranty for a drone would make sense as it is likely to go wrong and/or once crashed would be easier to get fixed if it was an EU registered product.

Have you got your order yet?

My theory is that when they listed their drones in the wrong category just so buyers would get 20% off, they cost eBay a lot of money by breaking the rules

I wonder why?

Plenty of mavic pro deals get voted hot. Problem is this is old design now with the Mavic Air and pending Mavic pro 2. Seems to have held its price despite this and that's why it's been voted cold.... In my opinion anyway.

It's a shame they don't seem to understand what the site is for I suppose.

Paid £780 for the combo, imported from China back in September. Got about 12 hours on it.

Because people vote cold when they see £999 for a "toy", and don't understand what it actually is and whether it's a good deal or not.

Why so cold? Pretty much the cheapest it’s ever been on Amazon! I thought it was a good deal.

Not sure as they are grey market, good idea though. Trouble is I already purchased a new pair now!! I'll give Apple a go and see if I can get fixed then sell them.

Thanks I’m thinking of giving them a miss based on reports I’ve found online

No duty or import tax. Item comes from HK. I purchased AirPods from them which arrived in 6 days. However, they’re faulty. Eglobal need me to return them to HK within 14 days at my expense. I can’t find a courier that will air a product with 3 lithium batteries in one device. I’ve contacted PayPal and my credit card. Eglobal have great prices and delivery. CE I know I can use floater and activate FCC but it's a pain everytime.Overall I'm sticking to the pro it's better for what I need hence why I'm selling my air. (lol)

Are you using CE or FCC?

Having to sell mine due to range of the mavic air being garbage. On a clear daybed lucky if I can hit 900ft no ostructions and signal booster. For me I wouldn't advise the air.Buy the pro off DJI shop eBay recon for £699.I have the platinum and it's brilliant.Never had any range issues at all.

I want to swap my p3 for an air or pro, but the pro is more expensive and bigger...

I have the spark the air and the mavic pro platinum and have to say my favourite all rounder is the mavic pro then the spark.Im trying to sell my air.Its great don't get me wrong but the range is shocking.I prefer the still images on the pro and the video on the air and thbespark is just great fun.In all I'd recommend the mavic pro.

Sorry if it appeared aggressive, I was just bemused that you launched straight into a review of a commuter tyre.

Hi i used 35c marathon plus for over a year on my 29er comuting fitness bike and they were great and never puntured, Could do little of road etc Recently bought new 29er so old man can have old bike and it it has fat tyres like posted here did plan on swaping to marathons again but after couple rides i find the fat tyres so much better comfort better grip etc and no problems of road will be sticking to fat tyres in future puntures not problem i cary spares :)

Cheers for deal OP

The aim wasn't to compare but to pass on some good advice to fellow cyclists. One of the bikes in my comment is a MTB. Try not to be so aggressive it's only a bike tyre after all.

Well said, this annoys the hell out of me... any quality drone owner knows you can't even take off near an airport, I honestly believe all the hype is to outlaw them due to what is coming in the future, i.e. Amazon and Delivery Drones etc, and this is where the real problem could be. I got the Air when it came out, fantastic and way better than my prior Spark... gutted though as Quidco never paid out as usual!

If that's all you need, get an Air. 2.4ghz will always be better range as the wave amplitude of the frequency is lower. Biggest reason to get a Mavic or Lightbridge enabled drone is range, you don't need it, plus it's pretty much illegal now to fly further than you can see it. Mavic will be £900+ It's a stellar drone... no question.

Yeah of course. To shoot what I usually do all I need is to be able to travel a few hundred metres away or upward. Do you use the 2.8ghz signal? I’ve read that it’s usually better. I’m trying to decide whether to wait for the mavic pro 2 or get a mavic air now. Thanks for your info!

Sure. Obviously there are factor that will impact range (line of sight, radio signals, WIFI networks) but it will manage that even with those factors accounted for. In a rural area free of the above issues range tests I've seen on YT have been several miles.

Hi mate, quick question about the range of the mavic air. With it being a WiFi connection do you experience it cutting out at all? With my mavic I would only ever fly it 200m high and around 400m max. Does your mavic air manage range like that? Thanks

When these drones are sub £500 with extra batteries, I’ll go for one. I know this one won’t drop to that, but prices are quickly coming down. I had the Mavic on order when it came out, at just over £1k but had second thoughts. They need to drop sub £500 with extra batteries to break more into general consumers. Also the mandatory tests that are supposedly coming will put people off.

Just a quick follow up. As today is the first day I’ve been home without it being pelting with rain I’ve just registered, updated firmware etc all without any issues or warnings from DJI about the stock source. The safety quiz you have to take asks UK questions and to all intents & purposes it seems an identical process to a UK bought kit - just £300 cheaper. :)

Great! I got my dispatch notice last night so hopefully I should get the Mavic Air for the weekend :D

Hi Chris, Yeah, i have always updated all the software and firmware on DJI Drones before taking them out for the first flight and never had any problems doing so.

I wouldn't worry yet. My order was placed on Friday March 23 at 13:46, I didn't hear any more until my despatch email on Monday March 26 at 14:09 with a DPD tracking number which didn't appear as collected on DPD's system for another couple of days. It was finally delivered on March 29th. Factor in the Easter Holiday and the probable backlog they have and I'd say you should get a despatch email in the next couple of days.

One more question for you. Did you complete all the firmware updates for the drone prior to going for a fly?

It's shipped from the EU, not UK so there's potential issue one. Second is if it is a Chinese sourced device there's issue two. Unless it's a drone intended for the UK by dji, which isn't likely, then you're potentially in trouble if there's a problem. There's no need to be aggressive, just pointing out the facts. If nothing ever goes wrong and it's got CE mode and approval for the aviation authority then happy days! If not, it's a big chunk of money to swallow.

I looked at polar pro filters at amazon but paying £80 for filters that only go up to ND16?

I'm looking for a set with ND4/8/16/32 and ideally with polarisers built in to bring out the sky a bit. Still looking around at reviews as many are not in stock or only go to ND16 which isn't enough on very bright days. The DJI ND filters seem a bit lacking - no ND32 for bright days (summer is coming, right?) so it'll be near-impossible to shoot 4K/24 @ 1/50 shutter speed and not be over-exposed. Whack up the shutter speed to compensate for overexposure and motion looks weird and jittery. Slow-motion 2.7k/60fps@1/120 and 1080/120fps@1/240 should be more possible but I definitely want ND32 as I shoot primarily in 4K/24fps.

Just phoned up hobbymounts managed to get one sent out tomorrow; i'll have to take a look at the filters. Thanks - what filters do you recommend ?

They can't have had too many in stock unless there's been a blitz in the past 24 hours. Sucks about the phones, maybe it's the version of Android on older phones? I've been using mine with a iPhone 6s Plus but feel it's a bit too wide for the controller so might look out for a smaller device with good outdoor viewing (essential). Just been out for a play since the rain stopped, wind died down and the sun came out. The shots/footage you can get with it are very nice - great to vary up your B-Roll and movies. The follow modes are very good also and I got some low angle stuff comparable in stability and motion to what an a6500/A7Rii gets on a gimbal. I pretty much went through and tried every type of shot and did some random flying and used two-and-a-half batteries. This feels about as many as I'd need realistically before switching to shooting with a camera or doing something else. Auto-exposed video just doesn't look good so ND filters are a must as the highlights get blown out quickly when shooting manual (to get the correct shutter speed according to the frame rate). Can't wait to take it out near the coast and up mountains.

Tough choice then. For me I wouldn't advise buying a spark without the controller it's good but the controller really does make a world of difference. Also when you put aemoty card in your drone make sure you have cache set in settings on the DJI app so it records to the memory card and the phone. Please don't do what I did and look at the footage on the phone and think it's rubbish as it only records in 720p on the phone and looks grainy .Once you take the memory card out of the drone view it then and you'll be amazed on how good it is.In all the drone is superb and groundbreaking for its size and performance.Enjoy it.

I saw it on curry's. Wanted to buy on amazon as I have vouchers but they don't include controller by the looks of it
