With the Quest 2 getting an experimental 120hz update on Wednesday that looks to be the VR headset to have these days, I have one updated from my Rift Cv1 and its much better than that.

Bought 1 on the curry's? deal. Seems a bit better than the original rift text is sharper, only played skyrim for an hour. So early days. Worth the upgrade if u can sell ur original for 150.

^^At this point and after the Quest II I am personally waiting for the Index to be avalible again as at this point it seems to be the best overal PCVR HMD around now, and with FB taking the Quest down the mobile hybrid route, and the HPG2 not quite there with the controllers, i think the Index is the only way to go for the best tracking and best way of getting the most out of your PC hardware.....so the moment the world starts breathing again all the HMDs i have will be heading down to the local CEX, and i could kick myself as i had the Index on pre-order last year then cancelled it and went for the Q2, which i know now first hand was the wrong thing to do, as sometimes cheaper is not always the best route.

dudwood_fudwood

Thanks for the reply. I have no need for it to be untethered and would always run from my PC. So I guess I'm leaning more towards the Rift S and away from the Quest. My worry is without the sensors is tracking badly effected? Is the jump to the Vive or the Index worth the extra money? Or would you maybe recommend holding out and see what newer headsets release? Thanks again.

The spinning wheel that locks the strap always breaks on this, mine broke just sitting in the box. You can contact Oculus and they send you a replacement, or you can repair it yourself. It requires opening the wheel up and bending the plastic and putting grease on it... it must just sag over time.

Is this the best headset for WIRELESS PC VR gaming?

GimbaJAY

I've had both, if you're basing it on straight out the box, If you've got a good gaming PC, Id say go for rift S, 0 compression, no lag, max graphics, way more comfortable Quest 2, if you're newish to vr, you might not notice these little things, but you'd definitely want to upgrade the comfort side of it = more money

Fla5hyboy

Only folk that have had theirs bricked are the ones that formed secondary accounts to beat 'the system' whatever 'the system' is in their heads. I really don't see how it benefits them knowing I was playing on Job Simulator at half past eight last Sunday. Let's face it, it's pretty much impossible to get a lifetime ban on Facebook, unless you're a terrorist, a nazi or you're pretending to be someone you're not.

for PCVR the Rift S is the better option. Quest2 requires adb commands on each reboot to enable 90hz WIFI 6 issues, stutter, lag etc official link cable is expensive The supplied head strap is shocking.requiring more ££'s for an aftermarket part.

hellachloe

0 compression or lag, plug and play, way more comfortable, etc.

CBeems

How so? The Rift S is heavier, wired, requires a PC, has a lower refresh rate and a lower reslolution.

hellachloe

Because the rift S is still far superior for PCVR despite what people say.

chrisvenn

Yeah just started to see they have had issues with the strap. But the elite strap with case and battery would be what I would want

honestly, it was smooth as butter. i was shocked myself.

Safe your money and by the quest 2, it does everything this does but better.

sambartle

At the same price as the Quest 2.. buy the Quest 2. At this point id pay at most £149 for a Rift S.. with its guarantee of no more support, lack of wireless, lack of development focus.. etc..
