Need to move my Sky Broadband Router - what cable do I buy?

I had Sky Fibre and just grabbed an 8m extension cable from eBay. If you have issues with your broadband such as drop outs Sky will ask you to move the router next to the master socket.

What type of Broadband do you have from SKY?

From the left:

Telephone cable: BT plug to RJ11

RJ11 cable: RJ11 to RJ11

EDIT: I would suggest you don't use extension cables as some equipment can be funny about this and not work. Also, if you have connectivity issues in the future and need to troubleshoot, it's another element you will need to test. (edited)

Sorry think I've got it now ,. Normally you have a DSL filter on the phone connection on the master socket which gives a regular phone connection and a RJ11 socket too. Then you use the cable as in my link.ebay.co.uk/itm…080?hash=item5ba8018610:g:mRYAAOSw0JhfPpz8 (edited)

On reasonable assumption your "brand new Sky BB router" was standard issue including microfilter:
10m of BT-spec CW1308 cable with correct RJ11 male plugs each end to suit your Sky router & Sky microfilter is £11 delivered from credible seller ebay.co.uk/itm…624 (option = RJ11 to RJ11 4-wire; your choice of black or white colour cable).
Best to only consider CW1308 for such a cable, rather than any junk flat / ethernet-based alternatives that may (will?) impact connectivity on longer runs.

Keep the original junk cable that Sky provides - it will be required if ever Sky support needs to troubleshoot any issues.

Why not buy a cheap gigabit switch and leave the sky router by the phone socket, then you'd only need the one ethernet cable to link the two.

You could even use an old ISP router as a switch (pref one with gigabit ports) plus use it to provide a second wifi access point. (edited)

DOH! I thought it was 2 separate cables but it's one cable - your picture shows both ends of the same cable.

I was going to say the same thing. Might be easier to run a single ethernet cable from the router to where you need it and have a cheap unmanaged switch, assuming you're moving it as you want to connect it to something like a TV or a set top box? If you do put in a cable, I'd suggest using Cat6 at least and preferably Cat7 as if/when you get higher bandwidth services it'll be ready.

Or, have you considered PowerLine adapters? A lot of people don't like them, but until I could put in the ethernet cable I used them to connect a set top box to the router and streamed HD movies without any problem. (edited)
