Boiling Water Tap, Anyone Got One Installed?

Posted 4th Jan 2022
I'm planning a new kitchen installation and thinking about getting a boiling water tap. Has anyone got one, are they any good or just a gimmik, anything to watch out for?

I have a smart plug controlling it so it shuts down between 9pm and 6am to save even more pennies.

How often are you changing the filter, the long term cost of them is putting me off.

We were gonna get one until we saw the price I'll stick to boiling the kettle

The thing that puts me off that is it says near-boiling water. How near? …The thing that puts me off that is it says near-boiling water. How near? You can't brew a decent cuppa in water that's merely hot, it really needs to be boilng.

I have one and it’s blooming amazing. No kettle required now and it’s so simple to use. Not had any issues with it at all and just replace the filter every 3 months in the machine

I was also going to get one, again the price put me off too!

We have a older type at work, and it's not that reliable, also kinda put me off, but you have to expect it would have had much more use than any household.

Don't really need them in Cornwall as water is really soft. Only moved in April 2021 and changed the filter once as I don't know how long the other one had been there.

Couldn't taste a difference with new filter fitted to be honest. I got a twin pack for £42 but you can get 3rd party filters. I did with the fridge water dispenser and had no issues with those.

I've got a Grohe Red and its brilliant, couldn't imagine not having one anymore.

    Biggest benefit being when cooking.

That's interesting to know, i'm in Scotland where water is also regarded as soft.

I just noticed the website you linked to has the filters at £72 for 2, did you buy yours elsewhere? (edited)

Yeah, should be fine then. It's only to stop the scale in the boiler. If your kettle doesn't scale up then you'll be fine.

Have had an Insinkerator unit for over 10 years. It is a fantastic idea but this piece of Insinkerator kit is not good value. We've replaced it several times when the hot water simply stops flowing

It makes excellent tea Spoo. Have no fear. The thing to fear is a Quoker. They spit boiling hot water all over you. Horrible things that cost £1,000 or more.

Next time our insinkerator goes wrong, we will be getting one of these from Costco Reginox Tribezi 3-in-1 Hot Tap available in 2 finishes | Costco UK

Would a version with a tank actually make sense for home use? By this I mean unless you use a lot of boiling water per day wouldn’t it just be keep the tank water hot and continually keep heating up the water? Would this affect the taste?

Don’t have one but I’d rather get one that boils/heats the water in demand. (edited)

The one I've linked is a 2.5litre enclosed and insulated tank. Looking at my smart meter it will keep water boiled probably once or twice an hour for around max one min.

For a heat on demand you're looking at a lot of kw to heat it quick enough, think of an electric shower which are 9kw+

We have a “qettle” boiling water tap. Very good, 100 degrees water, British designed and good value.
    Cheapest being £550ish.
No need to spend anymore than that.

What is at fault, the tap or the boiler?

I'm interested in the Costco one as it was instore at £299.

The other one I've seen is this much cheaper Sauber 3 in 1 at £219

We've got one - it's brilliant. I wouldn't have paid for it though - it came with the house. Makes a great cuppa tea plenty hot. Doesn't seem to use any more leccy than the kettle did (mind, I don't pay for leccy either, as house also came with 5KW PV array and turbine!)
