Car Insurance or Claims Management for Write Off

Posted 30th Apr 2023
Hi

Just after advice, decades of never actually needing to use it but had our car written off last night by drink driver.

It's been totally destroyed along with damage to a couple of others.

Police just sent us over the information we need but just googled what is more beneficial, going direct to your insurance company or approaching claims management instead.

Just after pro, cons, pitfalls for any who have

A claims management company will give you an expensive hire car which you may be liable for if the other party’s insurance refuses to pay. Just go through your own insurance. The T&Cs will probably specify you must tell them.

Wouldn't trust claims management companies with a cup of tea.

Just go to your insurers, let them do the donkey work

Claims management company will provide all the same things as going direct to the third parties insurance but charge a lot more increasing premiums.
Dont go through your insurance just ring the drink drivers insurance and if they aren't claiming hes uninsured for drinking they'll supply a hire car and pay you out fast

I would stick with my own insurance company unless they are dire.

My car was wrote off back in august, my insurers told me to via AX, to be fair very good experience. They delat with everything, arranged, a decent courtesy car, arrange to collect my car and send it to a garage to see if it could be salvaged and negotiated with the other party for all the payments. I literally didn’t have to do anything. I have come back via my own insurance, but only for personal injury and so far nothing has affected my insurance claims.

Depends on whether the replacement vehicle needs to be similar to your own. If it does then you'll be referred to a claims management company by your insurance otherwise your insurance will handle everything on your behalf including a small car to get by until they agree a settlement with u

We’ve recently been paid out for our car and we dealt directly with our insurance company. The communication was direct with no third party involvement and the whole process was seamless.

Slightly off topic, when you do get the write valuation, if you are not happy with it, research advertisements from autotrader etc, and submit to the insurance company to reconsider write off valuation

Definitely go through your own insurance company as it 'may' need to be them that eventually pays out.
The scummy drunk drivers insurance policy will likely have a clause saying if the driver was under the influence of drink or illegal drugs their policy will be invalid. (edited)

Drunk drivers insurance should payout 3rd party claims.

In fact I think they have to (edited)
