Macrium Reflect has never let me down. One of the few soft products I gladly pay a full license for. Worth it.

So, I used an external NVME caddy and put my new NVME SSD in it. I used Macrium to clone my exisiting NVME SSD to it. I then swapped both SSD's ( depends on data but mine took 5 mins. ) I then booted to Windows and all's well.

macrium reflect free edition should work to clone a drive, ive used it before and it works well.

Generally no, but there are many free software out there to accomplish this. If the same size drive (1tb - 1tb) you can simply do a bit for bit copy of your original drive to the new one, if different, you would need to use something like Macrium Reflect or similar.

I am about to try this OP with Macrium. Will let you know in a bit.

Macrium reflect free edition support will be discontinued in Jan 2024. After that they will only officially provide a free trial version of the main program, though that should be enough to do the as a one-off. You might still find older versions available on other sites. Otherwise I've used Minitool Shadowmaker free prog to clone an SSD in the past. (edited)

Samsung have Magician and data transfer software, but it only works with their drives.
