Saving mobile number while abroad?

Posted 17th May 2023
I asked a while back about saving my mobile number when moving to Egypt.
Originally thinking of Giffgaff payg sim.
But, would it work with the Lyca 1p mobile deal? I'll be back before 6 months and can switch again.
Basically, roaming switched off and just use local WiFi for calls and messages via messanger/WhatsApp.
Currently with Lebara, but cheap deal ended.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You'd need to make a chargeable call every 90 days for that plan to work. If you don't, you'll be disconnected and lose your number. So you would have to top up with cash credit to be able to call while roaming from Egypt and keep it active.

Lyca do have a special plan for people like yourself though which costs £5 a year to hold a phone number in storage. No need to call every 90 days to keep it active. You don't get any allowance or mins or texts, but it will keep your number safe.

I'd be leaving the 1p deal recurring for 6 months. Not a PAYG.
If I had to make one call or text every few months, that's doable.
With 100 international minutes, does it count if you call from abroad to the UK, rather than the other way around?

    TIA

Rwg or asda mobile would be cheap alternatives.

    What's the difference to Lyca?
Lyca have some great offers for first 6 months.
