Fridge not cooling

Posted 16th May 2023
Hi, I have a not so new (8-10 years old) Samsung American style side by side fridge freezer, which has been in storage for more than 6 months. I've recently turned it back on again to see it give E22 error. I resetted the error but now I'm seeing the fridge is not getting very cold at all (10-15 degrees) even though the freezer is freezing stuff. I was toying with the idea of opening it up and trying to test the sensors and fans and such with a multimeter but it's going to take a lot of my time as a noob in the field. If I'm going to have to get a replacement I'd rather not end up paying £100s for someone to come trial and error different things with no guarantee that it'll be fixed. So what are my options?

The cool air for the fridge comes from the freezer and if that's working it shouldn't be anything major.
It blows around the fridge via a fan.
It will not blow cold air if door is open.
So I would check if door switch is working properly. Maybe stick phone on record and stick it in the fridge and see if light goes off when door is closed.
Check the fan is working... You should be able to hear it wind down when you open the door.
Finally it could be the thermostat or the controller but that's outside the realm of DIY repair imo. (edited)

For reference of people visiting this thread in future, I ended up calling Samsung for support, they charged £100 call out and £150 for parts, meant to come fit it this week so we'll see if it sorts out the issue.

I had one of those for 13 years and I fixed it myself several times with parts bought from eBay and videos on YouTube. Very simple.

Would you kindly elaborate how you went about testing the different parts before deciding they need to be replaced please?

If you Google it the problem is very common on these fridge/freezer’s,we had one 10 years ago you need to take the panel off at the back of the fridge to get at the problem. In the end we got a replacement part.
