Totum - any real use at all?

Posted 31st Jul 2023
I just got a notification saying my Totum membership is going to expire soon. I forgot I even had it because I never use it. The only thing I found useful was the Amazon Prime student membership and the occasional eating-out discount but I find the vast majority of the deals seem to be the same kind of deals that are available for new customers anywhere, or they're just the basic 10% off this, spend big amount (more than you'd normally) get a small amount, type of deal.

Are there any really good unique deals I'm missing?

Amazon Prime won't let me have the student discount anymore so I'm seriously leaning toward not renewing, should I reconsider?

It's pretty terrible nowadays. The only thing I use it for is the 10% Co-op discount. (edited)

I find food in co-op is priced at least 15% higher than most supermarkets so even with the 10% it's expensive.

    1. You forgot you even had it
    2. You never use it

    The answer seems so obvious...

But I wanted to check if I was missing something, missing out on some great deals or uses for the card that I didn't know about.

I have not renewed mine as it is pointless for me, do not use it anywhere except for Prime. Have heard that Amazon do not accept the Pro card for Amazon Prime. Not sure if this is correct or not though.

Have you tried to open another Amazon account and then trying to get Prime on that new account? (edited)

Well my wife has one now so we're using that for the time being.

Totum don't even offer any freebies or anything anymore then? It literally is just the same discounts you can get almost anywhere?

10% co-op discount, Samsung discounts, amazon prime student.

Even if this is all you use it for it's well worth the money

Correct, although I posted a simple workaround in Oct 2022 and in all the subsequent
"how do I get discounted Student Prime with Totum Pro"
threads nobody has indicated the workaround doesn't work:

Only found it useful for Coop which is only useful if use one enough (as they're generally quite expensive...)

I also didn’t renew this year , had 4 years of student prime from it previously, but other than that just used it for 10% in Superdrug and boots . Boots still have the 10% automatically on my advantage card , although I’m sure that will fall off soon.

Am in exactly the same boat - received an email from Totum advising my Pro membership expires at the end of October 2023.

TBH, I was going to blindly renew but this thread has made me re-think along the same lines as the OP.

I initially took it out for Amazon Student Prime but haven't used it fully - however, next day delivery has been handy when I have made purchases.

Amazon emailed me earlier this year to say my Student Prime was due to expire even though I'd only had it for two and a half years - however, I still managed to renew it for another year so will get three and a half years when it expires in April 2024 - I somehow doubt Amazon will renew it again.

The only other use the Totum membership has been for me was a few months ago when I bought a new Samsung S23U phone for a decent price.

Got a few months to decide - if I do renew, may just renew for a year so that I can at least try and get Prime extended to get the maximum four years they offer.

If Totum's renewal prices were a bit lower, then I think I would have automatically renewed.

I use it as student proof for discounts on attractions in the UK. Pretty useful.

Don't forget 10% off boots and superdrug too. And even better when you can get 20% off only for students. From time to time we use the tastecard too, which is a good saving. (edited)
