Boardman cycling jersey also 20% off 3 or more pieces of cycling clothing I think or something like that excludes helmets
Mousewithoutahouse

Ordered all 3 for £26. I usually pay more than that for one budget jersey. Recommend cycling clothes for anyone other than the most casual riders. It's really surprising how much faster you are without loose clothing flapping about.

I managed to get both a long and short sleeved version yesterday Just be aware that the Halfords website said the short sleeved version was out of stock locally in my size, and the nearest store with stock was 50 miles away. Hence, I only ordered the long sleeved version locally and when I went to collect, to my surprise they had the short sleeved in my size on the clothes rack. Luckily ended up with both. For the money they are excellent value and decent quality. Fit wise...I would say they are a touch tight I'm usually a Medium size and still have Medium in these, but they feel a bit tighter than would ideally like. Large would definitely be too big though For some reason the long sleeved version feels a bit looser than short sleeved

Just collected my long sleeve top. Decent quality and 50% off the tag price. Highly recommended for anyone wanting decent quality kit at a reasonable price. Don’t worry about what a couple of clowns in here say, get out on your bike in whatever you want to wear and enjoy yourself!

Cheers, my own worst enemy with it to be honest, always competing against myself haha. Usually get between 19 and 21mph depending on route, weather and how I'm feeling etc.

Aerodynamics yes, it’s the reasons planes fly and cars now use less fuel. It’s a reason pro riders that buy expensive kit (not this tat) wear this type of stuff, shave their legs, shave their arms, shave their heads, wear special helmets, buy light bikes you can lift with one finger and wear special shoes etc etc.

Deal no longer available! What's your point linking a deal from October 19? Don't want to mention the 'old time machine joke'

What you said could be construed as saying the Boardman MTX is 2kg heavier than the Giant Escape, as you've specifically stated the forks are around 2kg heavier. I get what your saying, you've said it on other threads, front suspension forks are heavier, but please put it into context and state the overall weights when comparing 2 models so folks can make a judgement (y) I'm sure folks would appreciate a link to your recommended Giant Escape around this price......

bonzobanana

I'm not sure what you mean I clearly stated above that its about 2kg heavier due to the suspension fork but you can't use that to compare to another bike as its weight may be in different areas. It might have a lighter or heavier frame or different wheels etc. Here is a typical Suntour suspension fork for a 700c hybrid bike. It starts at 2.42kg for a the 50mm travel version with minimum features. https://www.srsuntour.com/sl/products/fork/NEX-6282.html It's roughly 2kg approx heavier because of having the suspension fork over a rigid fork. The reason I recommend Giant is because they manufacture many of their own components and they are extremely well regarded for the quality of their components which are very well engineered but that doesn't mean they will always be the lightest. Giant are rated to up to 160kg total load and have a lifetime warranty on the frame and forks even CF forks. Saying that for road bikes Giant are often extremely competitive for weight, even their entry level Contend model comes in at less than 10kg.

andynicol

You commented similarly on the Carrera post. As you are only comparing 2 models, your comment/review comes across, again, like 1 bike is 2kg heavier than the other. You say the Boardman MTX 8.6 has front suspension weighing around 2kg, and that you prefer the Giant Escape. After much searching I find the Giant Escape 1 Disc 2019 (£500) is around 12.7kg, so 'only' 1.3kg of a difference and not the 2kg. I do find it strange that you comment so much on threads re frames etc but can't put the facts down re weight(s) for folk to form an opinion and/or preference.

bonzobanana

7005 means the factory is probably quite basic, the better factories don't use 7005 anymore but Halfords may have gone with 7005 because of the labour costs involved in making a smooth weld frame depending on how its done, either filling, double welding, removing weld material it costs extra money to create an aluminium frame that looks like a carbon fibre frame and so a lower end factory with lower labour costs might have been required. As much as I like many of Halfords bikes for value often Boardman are at a price that higher quality brands compete in, Giant for example which to me are better bikes. I don't like suspension forks on a hybrid anyway, it adds a lot of weight typically for these suntours 2kg approx over rigid forks. Personally I'd be looking at the Giant Escape range at this price point especially 2019 year bikes and avoiding suspension forks on a hybrid.

I also found it strange this colour was reduced a lot more than the other colours, the blue is £50 off (£500) and the black (best colour IMO) is still full price at £550. I ordered it with the xmas day 10% code, after Quidco, it comes in at £363, I'd never pay £550 for it though, will post a review in due course, collection date is the 4th.

Picked my bike up today. Usual really good build quality and is smooth as silk on the rd, I know it a little thing but I hate the grips they put on now. Other than that another great bike with a great price. I think anyway..

i really like the way that the newer e-bikes have the battery designed into the frame, it makes them look much better than carrying a battery pack around on the bike.

I have an Ultegra groupset bike and another winter hack with Tiagra/105 mix. It is like night and day between the two. And I don't mean the gearing, it is the slickness and effortless of gear changes. And for the comment about a £100 bike to avoid being nicked, if you are a serious cyclist riding a £1K bike you should be riding it outside not parking it. If I am using my bike to travel somewhere and then have to park it outside then I use my £30 year old town bike which has more emotional than financial value.
