Posted 20th Jan 2023
Hi all, I need a copy of Microsoft Excel, I cant use a substitute like libre.

Where/what's the cheapest method to squire a copy?

eBay shows a copy of 365 for £40 for whole office suite, wanted to run by whether this is the best deal?

Thanks

Used gamers outlet just 2 weeks ago, paid less £5, they sent a link to the iso, downloaded office 21, and didn't understand the action, prompt reply to message, with a video link, installed & activated

Microsoft 365 is a subscription service so that £40 would be for a period of time - likely a year unless the ebay seller is trying to rip you off. That's a pretty cheap way to go if you only need it for a certain period of time.

The ones with the year in the name are the perpetual licences, such as Office 2021. The cheapest legitimate way is to buy those is to pick up a second hand copy.

Key marketplace sites are often rather poor at verifying the provenance of their products, and there's been plenty of cases of them selling keys bought with stolen cards and other illigitimate sources.

Am I right in saying the ones with years in the name are more 'offline' type ones, so some of the 365 features, like one drive integration dont work etc?

I have a student license from my wife on my current laptop, which doesn't seem to run out, but getting a new laptop soon so may need to purchase, for the first time ever! (used to try it free with work before that)

Allkeyshop has office 2019 phone activation for a few euros usually. I chose gamers outlet for me and my nephew before. Phone activation is just type in some codes. Don't speak to anyone.

This question again? It depends on your use case - Excel can be had for free from the Official Microsoft store: microsoft.com/en-…web
The web version is free, you can download the desktop version as a trial for 30 days for free as well.
It normally costs £149.99, most places outside of the official Microsoft store are selling a product that is against the T&Cs of the license agreement.
There is also a web subscription service which starts at £5.99/month, again purchasing from anywhere else is likely to be a version that goes against the T&Cs of the license agreement.

paying for office yearly is a joke, can't believe you can't just buy office for home use version for £50 without this yearly subbing con job unless you try a 3rd party seller, £110 on Amazon, bonkers.

That's the price I think my weekly grocery shop is too expensive, but unlike Microsoft Office, I don't really have any alternative there! (edited)

Home & Student is ~ £100, basic browser version is free (go to Office.com), many students and educational staff get 365 for free, Google/OpenOffice/LibreOffice/Kingsoft/Apple offer free alternatives.

Pirated keys cost couple pound, or free activation just requires a bit of Googling.

    Those are your choices (edited)

If it is for work, school, or elsewhere that demands it, then make them supply it.
If it is merely because you trained on it, you will find most commands are transferable

German eBay I heard. They are allowed to sell there (edited)

No, Germany only differs for OEM, which Office hasn't been offered in for decades.

I brought professional plus a few years ago however looks like the key is now not working as went into Excel and said I needed to go through activation. Went through the phone route and said key isn't valid.

Maybe the same as what caught me out. I purchased a key that was tied to one device and changed my laptop!

Every computer I have had (about 5) I have managed to get cheap codes off Ebay.

IE Office 2019 for about £10

    Lately Ebay have cracked down.

    wowcher do cheap codes (edited)
