Sorry to ask this but can anyone explain things to me regarding “sim only” deals as I’m not sure I’m understanding the pricing of it all correctly.
So currently I’m with Vodafone - the contract has been rolling on for ages and I believe I’m paying way too much….
I’m on Sim only (not tied in).
I get 120gb of data (which is way too much as I’m told I only average 20gb of data use) - I get unlimited calls and text and pay £26 a month.
Vodafone have said they can “upgrade” my sim only deal to reduce it to £23 a month and give me unlimited data (still won’t need that much data), with unlimited calls and texts.
Now here’s the bit I don’t understand - if you go onto Vodafone’s website they offer a sim only contract called “20gb basics” which is 20gb of data with unlimited calls and texts for just £8 a month - this sounds perfect for both price and my average useage - but having just spoke to Vodafone they say I can’t have it as part of an upgrade, I’d have to lose my current mobile number and take out a new contract with new number to get the £8 price.
It seems that Vodafone basically want you to carry on paying the high amount price for convenience of not having to lose your existing number ??
Is that correct and are there ways around retaining your number and getting access to these very cheap sim only deals?

sorted byVodafone own a budget brand called TalkMobile. You can go via USwitch and get a 30 Day rolling contract with 30GB for £7.95 a month, and easily port your number across to that. In addition you get all the full range of features including 5G, and it's all the same customer service people as you currently get answering the phones too.
As an added bonus, for the last 3 Years in a row, TalkMobile have frozen their prices and opted not to do an annual price increase for customers. Which makes it more appealing than the Vodafone offer directly.
If you want to do this. Just text PAC to 65075 from your Vodafone SIM. It will give you a code that you give to TalkMobile when you're getting set up. That will automatically close your Vodafone account and move your number over to the new SIM card on the next working day.
Staying with Vodafone directly will ultimately cost you more. And while it would be nice to upgrade and keep your current SIM and account - It's minimal hassle to port it and get a much better deal by shopping around.
Dance step 1) Request PAC from current rubbish cellular arrangement.
Dance step 2) Coincidentally commit yourself to a new less-rubbish cellular arrangement of your choice.
Dance step 3) Obtain PAYG sim from an intermediary network. Popular intermediaries amongst the DP dancers is AsdaMobile & Lebara.
Dance step 4) Port rubbish cellular arrangement number to intermediary.
Dance step 5) Request PAC from intermediary.
Dance step 6) Use intermediary PAC to move number to the new less-rubbish cellular arrangement.
If your feet have more flair than your 1970s wide-bottomed trousers you may be able to rearrange the early steps to minimise any dual / overlapping / coincident commitment associated with step 1 and step 2.

Most operators and networks will give the cheapest deals to new customers only - its how they make their money basically.
Have a look at another network and go with them instead. SIM only deals are soooooo reasonable.
Purchased a “good” condition iPhone 13 from back market.
Took out a new contract with Talk mobile , and im now paying just £8, a month for future months rather than the £26 Vodafone was robbing from me!
I have ported over my old mobile and yes it was much simpler than I first imagined.
Ok I have one more quick question please - the iPhone 13 arrived today from back market - I’ve tested it and checked it all over for scratches and it’s pretty much perfect condition.
I’ve checked the battery health and it states 92% - is this a concern at all or would this be expected for a “good” condition iPhone 13 from back market?
