Best Fragrance Dupes That Smell Just Like The Real Ones

Hello everybody,

Today I want to dive a little bit into a pretty hot topic on line and on social media: Fragrance Dupes.

If you are a sucker for a great perfume like me, you will also agree that some brands are basically asking you to get a mortgage sometimes to purchase a 100ml of what is seems to be like eternal youth elixir.

4203120_1.jpg
While in the US the this market is huge, and affordable brands with top notch designer fragrances dupes are popping up like mushrooms, in the UK it has only recently started to become a thing with Zara and Aldi on the forefront of the scene offering an amazing dupes selection.

First thing first, what is an actual perfume dupe?
I know it sounds obvious but it is a common misconception that a fragrance dupe needs to have the exact same ingredients and notes composition of the original product, while the only outcome you need to have with a great dupe is that on the skin, the mix will have to smell exactly (or almost) like the more expensive and luxurious one.

Why are Dupes SO hyped right now?
The clear reason is because everybody wants to smell great and not spend £300 for 30ml of perfume, but another reason is that a lot of people (me included) are not necessarily a "Signature Fragrance" kind of human and love to change their perfume based on outfit, mood, season and occasion - but buying multiple and expensive designer products is definitely not in the budget.

They are pretty, cheap and smell heavenly - is there any downside to a perfume dupe?
Unfortunately, yes!

The first downside is definitely durability: dupes are usually not as long lasting as their expensive siblings as they can lack premium ingredients and contain more alcohol.

Another thing it could be worth mentioning is that because sometimes the formula is altered compared to the original ones (mainly to keep the cost down), as much as they smell the same testing them, on the skin they might dry a bit differently based on each individual skin PH.

As I mentioned before, Zara is an incredible dupe machine with a huge selection of fragrance dupes available, some of which were actually created by very famous perfume makers (see Zara Ebony Wood (£34.65 for 100ml) - dupe of the very famous Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt (£118 for 100ml), created for the Spanish Brand in collaboration with Jo Malone herself, so you know it is going to be spot on!), but there are plenty of brands that are currently offering incredible dupes at great prices - and here're my 10 favourites:

I used to sell FM perfumes - the factory is based in Poland or Germany and from what I remember being told they make a lot of the expensive designer fragrances and then make their own, slightly tweaked versions, so they smell virtually identical. They sell EDP rather than EDT, so they have good silage and longevity when wearing.

You can find your local FM World sellers on Facebook or other social media or you can order online from a seller. Price? Approx £15 for 50ml bottle- but they do have special offers: last week they were £10 per bottle.
The only one I don't rate of theirs is their version of Creed Aventus (male) which doesn't seem to last long. (Milton Lloyds Victor No 9 Perfumers Choice is a good copy of Aventus, a 100ml bottle costs around £12 - lasts longer on the skin than the FM version, but probably not as long as the original.) I'm pretty sure you can order samples at a small cost if you don't want to take a risk.

A little word of warning - they are a network marketing company, so you'll see the words "business partner" and "business opportunity" on their main site. Ignore and go into the shop as a "guest". The fragrances are numbered so they don't tell you what they are based on, but you can do searches online or ask a seller for a list. Don't let that put you off buying from them, they are excellent copies!

I've recently bought several of the Marks and Spencer ones, which are good copies but only EDT, so they don't last long. But good to wear every day around the house.

The other copy perfume company I highly rate, for the accuracy of fragrance and longevity, is The Parfum Club UK. Midlands-based, they import fragrances from Spain and have a wide range of decent fragrances to choose from. They have their own website, or you can find them on Facebook, and they also have regular market stalls around the Midlands area and beyond where they have a full range of testers to try. They're £15 for a 30ml bottle, but have special offers on their market stalls - the last ones I bought were 3 for £30. They use the words "inspired by" on their website so there is no confusion or trying to work out what it smells like! theparfumclub.co.uk/

    Hope that helps! (edited)

FM Perfumes absolutely do not share a fragrance house with any major brand. That's a lie that has proliferated among FM sellers to try and get people to buy their fragrances. FM has actually had to reign in its sellers from claiming it's the same fragrance in a different bottle because they've been in hot water with the ASA because of it. 51024172-VBij0.jpgYou're lucky to have escaped the clutches of a predatory MLM where the vast majority of people lose money rather than make it.

I was convinced a colleague at work was wearing 'Miss Dior', and compared it to my authentic bottle and it smelt identical - but it was this one: amazon.co.uk/Jazzab-100ml-Oriental-Woody-Perfume/dp/B07PWXSYXH

I bought two bottles a couple of years ago and it was spot on, but can't confirm if the formula is still the same.

EDIT: I've actually bought some more to try because I've almost run out of the ones I've been using, so will confirm when it arrives.

EDIT2: Can confirm is still smells the same, so I really good dupe for Miss Dior

    I have a few:

CDNIM/Mont Blanc Explorer for Creed Aventus

CDNIM Urban Elixir for Dior Sauvage

CDNIM Sillage for Creed Silver Mountain Water

    Rasasi
La Yuqawam for Tom Ford Tuscan Leather

Al Haramain Amber Oud Tabacco Edition Eau de Parfum for Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

For me, the CDNIMs, Rasasi and Al Haramain all outperform the originals. The Saudi houses have some powerful stuff. (edited)

I get dupes from The Essence Vault and Nuscents. Noted aromas are good too. FM are awful.

I'm currently wearing Aventus this is the best one I've found and £15 for 100ml nuscents.co.uk/pro…tus
    6ixFoot1's avatar
What are your thoughts on Noted Aromas? I bought two perfumes from them but have found that they don’t last long at all. Smell good though.

If you're on a budget, you might want to consider checking out Arabian Opulence at arabian-opulence.co.uk/. They specialize in perfume oils, but they have also started offering Eau de Parfum (EDP) options. The great thing is that their perfume oils are priced at under £5 each, and they have a fantastic deal where if you purchase three, you'll receive the fourth one for free. Plus, they offer free delivery.

I've found that their perfume oils have excellent longevity, lasting throughout the day. For instance, I recently tried their version of the Bad Boy by Carolina Herrera, and I could still smell it even after taking a shower. The performance of their fragrances is above average.

If you're ever unsure about which fragrance they've replicated, I recommend reading customer comments on their website. Another useful trick is to copy the listed notes of the fragrance and paste them into Google. One of the search results usually takes you to the Fragrantica website, which can help you identify which fragrance they've created a similar version of.

    G. Bellini - Homme is an almost 1:1 Sauvage clone and it’s the cheapest compared to this list by far and available in most Lidl stores.
  14. Fizzyfish's avatar
Zara’s Red Temptation is an excellent dupe of MFK Baccarat Rouge 540. Ariana Grande Cloud is another but Zara is the best. You smell it everywhere now.
Sol de Janeiro 68 isn’t close to it. It’s also a body spray rather than an EDP or EDT. Aldi has had dupes of Sol de Janeiro body spray’s in recently- though I know most stores have sold out now - still lots cheaper than the highly priced SDJ. Sol 68 is the most copied and for the cream and shower gel treaclemoon is a good dupe from Waitrose/Tesco/boots in Brazilian love.

I have both and Zara is definitely deeper as you said because is not an EDP or EDT. I actually have all three lol because I was insane and decided to buy the MFK (I know...come at me ) and on my skin Zara dries a little less sweet and more almost oudy I could say? The Sol De Janeiro one gives me the exact vibe and I agree is definitely lighter but in terms on how it dries on my skin it is closer

Surprised there's no mention of Montblanc Explorer

Same thoughts exactly. It's officially the dupe for creed aventus

I can recommend Craftovator - they do oil based scents that are great smell-a-likes and they last dayyyyssss

The only issue i have seen is that if you dab it on your collar it will eventually get oil stains if you are too liberal with the dosage.

I bought the £1.50ish samples of loads of them and im still using them nearly a year later.
    Gort1951's avatar
Looks interesting. 80ML Perfumers Alcohol and 20ML of Fragrance Oil for 100ML EDP. Works out cheaper than the Kits that are 50ML.

    Couldn't see any samples.

I bought the Aldi Lacura’s Essence of Italy Indigo for £5 a dupe of Acqua Di Parma Blu Mediterraneo - Fico Di Amalfi and it's gorgeous.

No idea what the original one is like to compare as I wouldn't be buying a £100 fragrance but I'm loving the dupe and went back to grab a couple more bottles before they sold out.

Almost bought a couple fakes when I was in Turkey, but backed out at the last min.
    imty_'s avatar
Sauvage is a weird one to get dupes for. Like for Like, there is a few from Armaf, there's Prada Luna Rossa Carbon but if your nose is developed around the Sauvage smells I'd try veering off into other freshies and see if anything takes your fancy. Anything fresh around the £20 mark released in the last 10 years is based on Sauvage or inspired by it so you can find a decent one.

I never bothered with zaras fragrances as they use to be really weak but recently bought zara red edition for men, as it was the only baccarat rouge 540 clone i could actually get to smell (maybe more extrait clone) and smelt really similar. Took a punt for £23 and im pretty happy. Obviously not as strong however, even with the original you kind of go nose blind to it, then will randomly get a waft of it. Zara red is the same. You think it's gone but then get a big waft of it.

It's actually made me think of getting some others zara fragrances. Zara have loads in store and they all smell really good. So if longevity is decent on them id suggests looking into them. I think vibrant leather bogoss smelt really good. maybe some kinda of fruit aventus type but.

Thanks OP people always think the cheap perfumes aren't as good but I wore one from Next years ago that had so many compliments with massive shock that it was just a £14 or something store brand bottle!! I had literally got it as a gift and needed something quickly as had lost mine so I only actually used it in desperation and ended up buying it again because I loved it so much!

Just to let you know the one for the girls Chanel one is not quite right I think the "Oud Vibrant Leather" is from the Zara mens one further up so it should probably say "M&S Soft Iris 100ml" which it says on the bottle and the link/price is correct but thought you might want to edit I'll be giving it a go though as I do love that Chanel one!

Yup, I’ve been pretty impressed with them from an order I placed earlier in the year. Longevity is average from the EDP sprays (certainly better than what I initially expected, may need a couple of sprays to get through the day), so I’m going to give the extracts a go next time around.

Sadly, I could never find a dupe (Or an Original) of Balafre (French) . I think it was by Lancome. (LAte 60s and early 70s) The best aftershave I ever used. Emailing Lancome futile, since apparently, they stopped that fragrance ages ago.

On the other hand, I agree with the sentiments of the OP.

My old cliche from a great survey by TIME magazine many many years ago " No perfume should cost more than the bottle it is packed in " !
