Why ?

Better DOF better Dnamic Range Better low light

Most importantly better choice of glass all the old prime. The Nikon D600 is a steal secondhand Nikon will fit a new shutter free of charge. Google it

But for me most importantly it just feels like my old 35mm where my crop sensor never quite felt right.

monster light its 88 grams and about 12cm long, not exactly a monster.

ps. i posted this deal at the same time, for a £2 light hotukdeals.com/dea…831
they have both had 88 and 89 hot votes respectively, one is -26 the other over 200..

just shows how biased this site is to numptys seeing something at £2 being a bargain but an item that is £159 on multiple sites and reduced to £103 here is not a deal..
nougat41 m ago

car headlights are regulated, don't flash and are inspected for alignment …car headlights are regulated, don't flash and are inspected for alignment every year at the mot. This monster light is fitted to a helmet for the sole purpose of dazzling people.Along with "reliable and super bright white light that you need when tackling the wintry roads"and[Image] leads me to think too much testosterone, too little grey matter, a bike and this light are a bad mixture. Lets face it whoever pays £103 for a torch called "exposure joystick" probably does with a flasher mac down the park

It's really quite easy to point these at the road.

It's amazing just how much you think you can learn from someone just because they've bought a product you don't understand.

If you think this person is somehow dangerous with a torch imagine how dangerous they'd be in a car?
nougat10 h, 15 m ago

Surely this would be illegal on a car.

A car headlight is 1800 lumens, these max out at a 1000. Yes it could be pointed in your eyes but plenty of cars have mis aligned headlights as well.

Would this make a good aerial for a scanner?

Only for scanning the 27Mhz band. For multiband scanning depending on the frequencies required you would need something like a Discone antenna.

The Sigma is a great replacement for a standard 'kit lens' such as the Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6. As an alternative, I'd recommend Nikon's 35mm F1.8G unless you want the extra wide angle 18mm the Sigma Offers. Stunning prime lens for the price at only about £150...
Why unusable in 10 years? isn't it the best lens for crop sensors in this range? Quite possibly. so any lens will be unusable in 10 years.
Absolutely stunning lens for video makers (covers super 35 just fine, or micro 4/3 with speed booster which is similar)

Also absolutely stunning for photographers on a crop sensor. I keep this on my D7000. That said, since this is Nikon mount, you can put it on a full-frame body without issues. The image circle covers the sensor (depending on aperture) from about 27 to 35 mms.
This is an amazing lens, just wished I could afford it...

The 'practical' difference between an 18mm and 35mm is neglible. Take … The 'practical' difference between an 18mm and 35mm is neglible. Take three steps forward and you've got the same thing. So multiple primes in this range is a nonsense. The quality of the Art lenses is not lost on me. I recently made a promo in NY where the 50mm was on my camera most of the time. Wonderful bokeh and really beautiful light flare (if you catch it right). But nonetheless Ken makes a valid point. If 10 years from now it's unusable, it's a poor investment for the non-pro.

Stepping forward and zooming out doesnt give you the same shot. Different focal lengths give you completely different looks.

I got this from WEX when they price matched other sellers. Getting superb results on my EOS 750D and the f/1.4 is bright enough for evening 'street' shots. Bargain at £224. I think my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 will be a reserve lens.

I'm not fussed either way, lens is sitting at home waiting, if I get the cashback then great, if not I've still got a great lens for <£300

so how is it silly to know beforehand if you can claim cashback or not?

The Lumix 20mm lens is a lot smaller, and lighter. Which could be good if you have a small camera, and want it to fit in your pocket.
Also the Lumix lens is f1.7, so about 1 stop wider. That could be useful if photographing in low light, or if you want a shallow depth of field.

Though the Lumix lens is much more expensive. I'm now looking for one cheap second hand.
Maybe also look at the Olympus 17mm lens.
