Deep Fat Fryers

Hello all,

How's everyone?

Can anyone help with this query please? My partner has said now we should get a deep fat fryer. Been saying it for ages!

Anyhow, does anyone know what is a GOOD one, decent price and that is easy to empty? Seen some reviews where they say that emptying them are very difficult.

We went into Lidl on the weekend and seen they have one now! Is it any good and easy to empty?

Thanks all.

Appreciate any help you can give us.

One tip, they are easier to clean if you use rapeseed rather than corn oil.

Corn oil quickly forms sticky deposits on the fryer like an uncured glue. Another option would be lard I guess. Olive oil should be good too. (edited)

Apparently you should never deep fry in olive oil something to do with it releasing harmful chemicals at high temperature

All vegetable oil is rapeseed oil if you look on the packaging and its cheaper than if you buy a bottle that says rapeseed oil on the front, go figure 🤷🏽‍♀️

Once upon a time (seriously, a long time back) I had a deep fat fryer but then got rid of it. Unless you're going to use it often I don't think its worth it. Cleaning it properly is a chore and it uses a lot of oil. I found it easier to just deep fry in a pot on the hob every now and then. Cheaper, easier to clean and one less gadget to store. Also with air fryers now being available and reasonably priced, this would be a cheaper and healthier way to fry stuff.

Hmmm are air fryers any good at frying burgers?

I can't stand the smell of frying, for that reason alone I'm thinking of an air fryer!

Yes sure are..... Bonus points for doing chips and a burger at the same time and ending up with.......

Realistically, how often would you use a deep fat fryer? They take a lot of oil that needs to be changed often. Also, deep fat frying is the unhealthiest way of cooking. The cleaning is also a chore and disposal of waste oil is a pain!

If occasion use for frying, then a small pan of oil in a deep pot will suffice.

Like Kevlfc has mentioned, an air fryer would be a better option (imo) if you haven't got one.

Some deep-fat fryers did use to come with removable bowls but I haven't seen any in a long time.

If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful one then the square one from Aldi has good reviews (think it was selling for £15 last year)

George@Asda, B&M etc have plenty ranging from £25 to £50 depending on size.

EDIT: The Tefal Easy Pro Deep fat fryer comes with a removable bowl for 'easy cleaning'

Chips can only by made in a deep fat fryer, end of discussion. Air fryers should be called air dryers, chips come out hard and dry

While I agree fried chips are better than air fried chips, I find I get really decent results in an air fryer also. If they're dry, you are probably over cooking them. Airfryers, I found, don't brown the same way as alternative cooking, so the chips or toast may come out looking a quite a bit paler than if you had fried it in a pan or toasted it in a toaster, but they would be crisp and hot like it should be. If you are frying the chips until they are 'golden brown' they would be definitely overcooked!

Also try spritzing a mist of oil over the fries with an oil spray for better results!

    Tefal Oleoclean Pro FR804040

Had one the above deep fat fryers for over a year. Got it for £85 from AO.

You can filter and reuse the oil. It all breaks apart and can be hand washed or put in dish washer.

Nothing better than deep fried chips😋

No a deep fat fryer not an air fryer. We've got one but it's hopeless at doing chips in there!!

Then you're doing chips wrong lol

I know proper chips are not the same but but they can be very close. Fries are lovely.

Ps I see a videos the other day of the hairy bikers doing chips in an air fryer, might be worth a watch (you tube and obviously there will be loads of alternatives and you may already of tried) (edited)
