Just saw blink settings, and it says 9 days remaining. Is it the same for everyone.

Subscription costs £80 a year since I am completely into their ecosystem.

Gutted!

Loads of options for cams that offer zero-cost cloud-stored footage, and/or local footage options using (example) microSD, and are typically Alexa / Google Assistant compatible.

Anything that uses Vicohome app has lifetime of free Amazon AWS-based footage storage for rolling 7 days.
Cams using VH typically start at £30+.
Example current hi-res 2k (4MP, 2560x1440) battery cam inc solar panel is less than £40 fulfilled Amazon, rambled about in recent post at hotukdeals.com/com…719 .
Similar option for interchangeable Longplus app but LP has a minimum cool down time of about one minute between captures.

Blurams' cams offer free 7 days rolling "Amazon AWS Cloud via end-to-end encryption technology".
Possibly max 20 secs for each freebie clip, can't immediately recall. No cool down period between captures. Some wired-power models offer no-sleep monitoring so footage conveniently includes a second or so prior to the capture trigger, rather than starting immediately after the trigger and missing the capture trigger event itself.

Cams that use the correct version of Yi IoT app also offer ongoing 7 days rolling cloud of motion-triggered six-seconds clips. Wired-power cams start from around £15 on the bay with typically always-on internal monitoring to include pre-trigger footage. Has cool down period, possibly 1min+ between footage clips.

Aiwit app cams typically have ongoing 3 days rolling fourteen-seconds clips.

    Probably others.

All above provide optional sub for additional options / features.

For any device that has "lifetime" cloud storage, I presume you have to expect it to be the lifetime of the current hardware manufacturer in it's current incarnation?

I only recently starting using Blink devices and my Sub ran out after 30 days. I just stuck a USB stick in the hub and use that for recordings, £80 a year is a bit steep to me

I think in a recent update they automatically put everyone on a trial cloud subscription. Luckily I spotted it and just cancelled and carried on recording everything to the usb stick I have connected to the hub.

Wow that is expensive. Thought it was £38 but that’s just for one device and not the “plus” subscription.
I’m lucky in that I bought a Blink camera just over 3 years ago and that’s free for life (added a Blink doorbell at another location with same account and that gets inherited free too).

I also bought mine over 3 years ago, but I've been wondering what happens if I buy new equipment to add to my old account?

I seem to recall Louis Rossmann on YouTube having a poke at them for this ....

I thought when my free subscription ran out I would try out the local storage so got a fast 256gb memory stick. I have the same live view and recording warning and temperature alerts but obviously it's no longer stored in the cloud.

It also takes ages to load videos from USB, no thumbnail preview of what triggered the recording in the first place, and no batch delete.

Its a joke, same thing happened to me a few months back. You can add a USB to the hub, but it makes the whole experience slower, and I rarely bother checking any footage now because its so slow, and a faff.

I left a poor user review on Amazon and they reached out and offered to send me out another Hub, as the USB drive only works with 1 camera. I had 2... Joke of a company.

I have 4 cameras and a doorbell on my hub. So not sure where they get that idea from

It's same for me too. I'm going to use local storage.

I still have two days left, but I won't be purchasing the membership because, in my opinion, it is simply too expensive. Instead, I have purchasing a USB stick and Blink Sync Module 2.
Motions are automatically saved onto my USB stick.

i have 2 of these cameras, very happy with them but im not going to pay. let them run as they are

Grabbed myself a USB stick, too. Hasn't really slowed things down for me, but YMMV.

I don't get why amazon have Ring AND Blink? Both now operating on the same business plan.

I do use Ring (and pay for it) but that's only for peace of mind and the fact that I have a great warranty. I had a camera that broke outside of warranty, chat with them on the phone for 5 minutes and got a code for 100% of a new, better model.

I looked at these kind of things thought it better just to spend a bit more upfront and get a unifi protect system. No subscription, can add as many camera as I like, local storage of video and accessible via app with excellent detection, alerts and all the rest. £188 for the controller and storage and £85 for a camera. or £220 for 3 cameras. blink subscription is optional, works fine with local storage

Very similar bait and switch tactic which killed off interest in Canary for most people, which had far superior hardware.

I've got Blink cameras and the subscription has just run out. I'm not paying so just put a usb stick in the hub. Works fine for me. Seems to retrieve clips from the hub quicker than the cloud.

My free trial ended recently and no issues with the USB. Does the job I want. I won't be paying.

Is this also for people on legacy accounts? I bought Blink cameras when they first came out and have never paid a subscription.

    nothing in my app

Im seeing some people who have the same set up as me - expired plan, USB dongle in Sync Module. Despite that some are saying its absolutely fine and some are saying theirs is very slow (accessing recordings etc). Mine is very slow, could it be due to the USB I am using? Are there levels of quality within the USB drive market?
    TheOak's avatar
I would assume read and write speeds are very relevant here

This is for those who don't think.

Think it’s the same price as Ring also owned by Amazon. Was always going to happen eventually cloud storage is not usually free.

Pre-April-2020 users shouldn't be affected by this new subscription, right?
