Actually i do like the gold d-pad on second look (edited)
Bethesda, now a wholly owned division of MS, is a prime example. The content of Fallout 3, for instance, could never ever be allowed in a Beth game in 2023. Even if overt 'messaging' is somewhat played down (unlikely- see Redfail), the content will be kept purposely bland, 'safe' and certainly free from 'male gaze' imagery.
One could compensate with great and new gameplay- but the underworld will freeze over before MS delivers on the technical side (Forza aside). At least Sony has great game coders.
Starfield is the 'great hope' but Beth has had nothing but rotten releases for years now.
I think the only game on my radar this year is Spider-Man 2.
As a passionate video gamer I hope every studio (and every video gamer) are learning lessons. My number 1 lesson is I use my wallet for where passion and time has been spent on a game, NOT to enrich shareholders. Stop buying early access, subscriptions, season passes, loot boxes, reskinned games (Yes - you Ubisoft, EA, Activision).
I miss my younger years, having experienced some truly amazing games (GTA IV, Half life, The Witcher, Mass Effect, Original COH, Old Tom Clancy games etc. It appears we will never see the calibre / quality of these games ever again - despite having the most powerful machines of all time to run it.
I could expand on this, but its HUKD so I'll probably made a YouTube video or reddit essay post or something.... (edited)
im coooming
build your own ship
hire a crew
(just like in startrek) divert power to power up shields and lasers
commit piracy
OH MAN DAY 1 PURCHASE
might even buy an XBOX. so impressed
my second though was.... OMg modders will add in the enterprise D, the millennium falcon and the tardis. with picard, cheweie and the doctor
I am so ready for this (edited)
And on a similar bent, the AAA industry is just messed up in general. Fewer big publishers than ever putting more and more eggs into fewer baskets, and then panicking when a game doesn't make all the money in the world. (edited)
I must say, Avowed didn't look great - but then it's Obsidian so I do have full confidence in them but the visuals didn't wow me.
Really intrigued by Clockwork Revolution. The steampunk style, Bioshock vibes, time manipulation. Looks very interesting.
Starfield - I mean...that's how you do a deep dive right? Just an incredible level of detail on there. Space isn't even REALLY my jam but I'm not going to be playing much else come September.
Exciting time to be a gamer, regardless of platform! (edited)
Really looking forward to the xbox showcase. This is an open goal for xbox to really get ahead of the narrative, especially after Redfall. All they need to do is nail the show and as xbox has said, we will see actual in play graphics and games released within 12 months.
1st time i watched a full show yesterday, because its at decent UK times. Xbox show on a sunday afternoon for us, so again, good time. Looking forward to it.

Microsoft's "No 12-month limit" kinda suggests other than Starfield and Motorsport (with it's own show on the 13th) they don't really have much now so will just show us what's coming in future years. If Motorsport doesn't cut it, or MS don't bother trying to play catch up with GT7 and offer VR there's always the improved Codemasters F1 '23 and their new WRC '23 licence due soon. Le Mans Ultimate was announced this weekend at the race, due in December, possibly coming to consoles which would be good to see rFactor 2 simulator effectively on console, along with their licences for BTCC and IndyCar, or NASCAR for driving in circles, although Motorsport Games having these licences scares many. Fortunately Assetto Corsa 2 is due in Spring '24 and GTR Revival will maybe appear next year too. It's developer suggested EA still have what they did so far for the cancelled Project Cars 4 so maybe that'll be a GRiD game instead? The Crew Motorfest didn't look very good from the leaks but will probably keep Horizon players entertained, not sure what Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will end up like.
Maybe I'm getting old but the majority of games now look utterly dreadful, I'm no fan of wizards /swords/ghouls/zombies/vampires/fantasy/anime/cartoon/superhero/role-play/pay-to-play/children's games which seem to make up 95% of everything in gaming now as their fans must be the ones who get their parent's credit card details, but fortunately there's GTA 6, Mafia 4, Max Payne 1+2 remake, Payday 3, Counter Strike 2, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Over, ARMA 4, Six Days in Fallujah, Ready or Not, Project 007, Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, Stalker 2, UFC5, Undisputed, Skate 4 and Cities Skylines 2 on the horizon, and talk of a Quantum Break sequel. Not really expecting too much from Robocop, no idea what Everywhere will be or whether former Forza staff now as Maverick Games and Lighthouse Games will do something decent.
I think that they had time to react to the PlayStation showcase and change things up for the better. The "no full CGI 1st party trailers" is big - suggesting that while there of course will be things further out, the featured games won't be *too* far away or at least are at a state where gameplay/in-engine stuff can be showed off
EDIT: infact, they are all wrong all are an hour ahead (+1 BST), all listed as CET times. (edited)
I was so OUT of Starfield, but that deep dive was phenomenal. 30fps lock on XSX is such a bummer though... come on, drop the quality down from 4k, most only have 1080p TVs.
If the 30fps is an actual LOCK, not a target and it has rock solid frame timings, you’ll get used to it. I’d much prefer that than a jittery experience with an inconsistent framerate.
