Any personal recommendations / ones to steer away from?
Requirements - good camera, large storage, decent battery life. No specific budget. Seems like I’m asking for the world with this.
Not an Apple loyal, although have had a few previous handsets. Oneplus served me well, but their customer service left a lot to be desired. Found Xiaomi to be more hype than substance.

I suggest the Pixel over the Samsung Galaxy S line due to the better software experience. Some say Google can't (or won't) compete on hardware and are making it up on superior software but I think it's a better way to go as most people care more about battery life than performance, which people usually use computers for. I also think that because Google's choices of chips are deliberately energy efficient so it tracks with the theory above.
If Samsung didn't bloat their software up, and went the way of AOSP of near it, I would be championing their devices for sure (edited)
