The specs in these Chuwi devices always look so good. Sadly they nearly always manage to drop a clanger with each device, and rely on users to find workarounds :(

Thanks. Got round to checking and there's actually a fair old gap between them, not sure what I was getting confused with before. Guess I'll be skipping this.

Nope, the PowerVR GX6250 in the MediaTek 8173 isn't as good as the Mali T880 in the Kirin 950.

I'm torn on this as i desperately want a win10 tablet with decent specs such as this one, but I've been refraining from ordering a banggood or gearbest, as i've read a lot of horror stories regarding the high rate of faulty product, terrible CS and such... Though i'm thinking for this kind of price it may be worth the risk? :S

Was tempted but il pass. Kids got the Hi8 which i liked and for the use she gets out of it, its lasted really well, even the battery hasnt went to hell. Shes got the keyboard/case on it as well, but tbh usually just on youtube so not really needed.Does good still and only had 2Gb ram, but common faults put me off, mustv been lucky the first time

Obligatory warning: Gearbest have an issue with warehouse staff stealing items from packages, so if you do buy this, make sure you do so with a credit card, and be sure to inspect the parcel before accepting it. If you're another victim of Gearbest's thieves, don't expect Gearbest to help you until you call them out publicly on these forums.

got one of these for the wife last August and it has not missed a beat, managed to get the proper keyboard addon for it also which does make it a bit easier to use.

Better buy preowned branded ones within the UK. Last prime day I bought 99£ 10” laptop from amazon similar specs to this. Can’t remember the brand name. Touch screen, and display are horrible. Yes I get it it is 99 after all. But the keyboard, it was harder than a rock. Return immediately!

Does it come with Windows 10?

Read Chuwi's reviews on their own Facebook before you pull the trigger on this.....

Yes, the one's I saw came with the keyboard. There were a few sellers when I looked last night. Both black and silver models. They are clearly China based, but state that they ship from inside the UK with reasonable delivery predictions of around a week. Whether these things are true or not... Just sold one of these. Whilst the 4Gb/64Gb combo looks good, the eMMC is low grade and makes it far more sluggish than it should be. The single band WiFi is particularly poor too unless you are close to your wireless source. And getting Android beyond 5.1 will be akin to finding rocking horse dung because this is as far as it will be updated. Somebody even created a petition about it. Petition Ultimately you will find it a disappointing overall experience. The optional keyboard isn't cheap either.

I did not receive my £3 usb mouse from best gear. They didn't take any responsibility for it and blamed everything on the shipping company and said I would have to take it up with them. More detailed S75 interpretation here:

Nice!. That's some interesting bit of info that. :-) Thanx.

Depends on the production batch, if its an early one you get then yes, if its a later one there is a hardware/kernel change and the custom ROM's for 6.0 no longer work. Its a gamble. I have one of these tablet, its alright, bit laggy on stock Android, if you can get the early ones that can be flashed then its passable.

S75 means the UK-based credit card company inherits the obligations of the vendor/merchant. The CC co has no choice in this; the merchant obligations are jointly and severally applicable. Example: if the merchant states an item has xx months warranty, that is what the UK-based CC co must provide or expose itself to UK legal redress just as if you had purchased the item from a UK vendor. This applies to any S75-eligible consumer purchase regardless of merchant or merchant location. You may have inverted the companies' methodologies? I made a recent purchase from BangGood and the credit card payment was made via BangGood's merchant pymnt processor OceanPayments (not a payment intermediary) and the item appeared on my credit card statement as "BANGGOOD.COM HONG KONG HK". That should be sufficient for any £100+ S75 eligibility. However, Aliexpress payments will typically not be made directly to the merchant (Aliexpress typically act as intermediary and Aliexpress will appear on CC statement, not the merchant's trading name) so will not qualify for S75 eligibility.

From a commercial perspective, there's always an ongoing cost associated with providing software updates particularly as you have to pay licensing fees to Google for the different versions of Android. Even Samsung don't provide support or upgrades for versions of Android on their older phones. Cheap tablets from smaller Chinese manufacturers are never going to have the quality of say an iPad or the technical support from Apple as margins are already wafer thin. That's one reason why they're cheaper in the first place. If I were to buy an Android tablet for £100, I would buy it in the knowledge that that is what you're getting and nothing else in future. If you want something with X number of years of future proofing and software updates, it's better to buy a (more expensive) higher end device. That said, I think you'll see a number of manufacturers increasingly provide premium devices out of China in the near future and those products will just get better and better. You only have to look at how well companies like Huawei, Xiaomi and One Plus are doing to know that. The Xiaomi Air 12/13 for example is a superb laptop (though not cheap) and that was their first attempt. I can definitely see companies like Jumper and Chuwi bringing out products in the near future that are increasingly competitive with established brands. The Jumper EZBook3 Plus looks good as does the forthcoming Chuwi Lapbook Air. Which each generation of product, they will improve. Let's not forget that these are relatively young companies whereas the like of HP and Apple have been around for decades. When you think about it, most companies are just system builders who buy in parts from other companies - CPU, motherboard, LCD panels, keyboards etc - and put them together rather than produce bespoke designs themselves. WIth that in mind, it really shouldn't be difficult to produce a good quality device provided you a make a good selection of components in the first place. The issue isn't whether its possible but whether its viable in terms of cost, sales and profitability for them. The Xiaomi Air for example is very well balanced in terms of component choices and quality but then, its noticeably more expensive (presumably to allow a profit margin) at £380-£700. The Chuwi Lapbook 14.1 is alot cheaper at £175 but then there are obviously compromises in terms of some component choices eg. N3450 CPU, 64GB storage etc and it's never going to have the build quality of a Macbook at £1,000. At the end of the day, you pay your money and make your own choice. As long as you make the purchase with your eyes wide open, I think it's good that there is the choice available to consumers.

Worth pointing out that with the odd honourable exception, Chinese manufacturers have a different mindset than we are used to in the West. Thorough product develpment, quality control and post sale support are viewed as optional luxuries. Corners are sometimes cut e.g. quality parts substituted for inferior ones if needs require. Once a device is launched, it goes on the back burner and the focus is on rushing to get the next product finished and out the door. For this reason it is unlikely that a Chinese manufacturer will become a mainstream brand anytime soon. I purchased a dual OS Chuwi Hi 12 tablet last year. Great concept, decent hardware, lovely screen but with several bugs. e.g. The microsd slot now doesn't work on both Android and Windows 10 (common fault with no Chuwi fix) , excessive battery drain and so on. Zero prospect of an official upgrade to the Android 5 it came with. Unless you like problem solving, figuring out workarounds and smoothing rough edges, then perhaps best leaving chuwi products alone.

A small company like Chuwi is obviously going to have less resources to devote to driver issues on a cheap tab with wafer thin margins than say the Microsoft driver team on the Surface Book but I still suspect the issue is more Microsoft related and one of the downsides of Windows requiring individual drivers for the million and one different pieces of hardware out there. Unless Chuwi have picked very obscure or old Broadcom or Realtek chips which are no longer supported, it's really for Broadcom and Realtek to provide the appropriate drivers. I remember that even Nvidia had problems when Microsoft were forcing through graphic card driver updates that conflicted with a number of their cards. As for the Tab 3 and Kindle which you mentioned, neither of them are Windows based which is probably why they don't have the same problems!

Yep,most likely but this isn't chuwi's hardware and other manufacturers probably faced exactly the same issues. I don't believe that all tablets and laptops with the same Broadcom and Realtek modules suddenly stopped working well because Windows released incompatible update. A responsible manufacturer make sure that their product works of at least tries. I know of plenty of examples when manufacturers rewrite the no longer supported drivers themselves in order to deliver basic functionality. This product's service was abandoned by chuwi right after the launch and that shouldn't be the case. I have got cheaper tablets at home ( Lenovo tab 3, kindle fire hd) and they are so much superior products despite inferior (at least on the paper) spec...because they work :)

I had one of these when they first came out. great bit of kit, but I sold mine a few weeks after due to it not being used. If you throw to much at it, it would crash. I've seen rave reviews for the Chuwi Hi12's screen, which would be perfect for comics :) Discussion of the screen at 1:52 Edit: Also, from watching that video, the Hi12's screen appears to be glass, not Gorilla Glass, but decent enough (I'd put a tempered glass protector on it anyway, like I do with all my devices - too clumsy :p)

If you prefer Banggood (I have read their customer service is a bit better, can't vouch for this though) they have the X80 Pro on offer till 17th May £63.75, Dual Boot, original box. ...actually, d'oh, it's a few pence more than the offer in Post #3, though the code doesn't work now with the newer Promo price anyway.
