https://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/redemption/2017/2h/ukie/di/assets/pdf/DI Winter17 Cashback Terms and Conditions 13122017.pdf*See clause 6b below for special terms which may apply to this model only. If you have purchased any of the following products from an authorised Sony dealer located in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man between 24th November 2017 and 29 th November 2017 (inclusive) or between 13th December 2017 and 31st December 2017 (inclusive) then you will be entitled to apply for the following enhanced Cashback and the remainder of these Terms and Conditions shall apply.

That's a shame - silly of Sony to have those figures still up. Guess this deal becomes hot again once they bump the cashback to £150 again
The grip is a must for this camera IMO. Makes a massive difference to me. £12 is a lot for what it actually is though.
Or can get some of that molding putty stuff and stick it on and shape your own for a few quid.

As for the case, a £10 Lowepro serves me fine.

Other than that, great camera.

Did anyone else order from Jessops and have problems? I've just cancelled my order through live chat, as when I asked why my camera that was in stock for delivery was now "On Back-Order" they said:

"I can see that we are chasing this one up with the stores that have stock of the camera for you. Unfortunately all of the stores that we've contacted only have the camera as a display model so it's proving difficult to find one that we are able to send out. I do apologise for the delay with this."

I've now instead ordered with the case and grip from John Lewis for £50 more - I think it's probably actually a better deal given how expensive that case is on its own normally! (Jessops also have the three items at the same price, but I no longer wish to give them my money!)

I have a Sony mirrorless camera as well with APS-C sensor and the results in low light are the same in low light when you use the 16-50mm kit lens as the lens is much better on the RX100 MkIII which roughly cancels out the sensor advantage. Which is why I specifically referred to not changing lenses, as a lot of people buy DSLR but just use kit lens and this camera would actually be better for them. A fast prime lens on DSLR is much better of course.

Funny how whenever Amazon warehouse has a deal on I always forget to look the things I actually needLittle confused by this though:"Sony will not accept claims against products purchased from eBay or from third party sellers on Amazon.co.uk's Marketplace platform (whether listed as new or used)."

I was away and missed out too.

If the camera comes brand new (as in my friend's case) you can register it, give Sony the amazon invoice via cashback website (it doesn't show it's amazon warehouse, just amazon sarl etc) and see how it goes. I've done it myself on a couple of recent sony purchases for a flash gun and a camera and got the cashback direct to my bank account within a week of requesting it. It is a gamble but if it works out like for my friend and I, it's a fantastic bargain. I wouldn't post it because there is no guarantee it'll work, and the 20% discount on Amazon warehouse is now no longer available, although my purchases didn't take advantage of the 20% discount. Like I say, keep an eye out (I got my A6300 with kit lens for about £580 and it was brand new and been registered with Sony, for instance).

@brilly - I disagree.

so? looking at your history you post micro 4/3rds deals 4/3rds is reference to tube diameter
4/3rds of an inch is 33.9mm

sensor size = 18 mm × 13.5 mm (22.5 mm diagonal)

nothing like 4/3rds of an inch

now if you compare the cameras via crop factor is only 35% 'worse' for '1inch' than for micro 4/3rds but you dont seem to have a problem with the 4/3rds even though your argument implies they are massively bigger and exempt from your own argument
the 35% is very very close to the difference between Aps-c and micro4/3s which is 33%

to me if anything that shows that 1 inch are BETTER than people think as they are only 35% off systems which are considered fairly similar in class yet 1 inch cameras tend to be much smaller whereas 4/3rd dont tend to be much smaller than asp-c

"You get four times better light capture with a back-illuminated sensor" - …"You get four times better light capture with a back-illuminated sensor" - first I've heard of this. Ken Rockwell says . . There is no such thing as a 1" digital camera image sensor, but many makers lie about it to get us to think that these cameras have larger sensors than they actually do. What are marketed as "1 inch sensors" are actually only about 9 x 12 millimeters on a good day, or about 0.35 x 0.47" — nowhere near one inch. These little sensors have only about one-quarter the area of a typical crop-frame DSLR (16x24mm)http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/one-inch-sensor.htm

lol at quoting ken rockwell blindly
it has a historical basis and everything is relative, just picking one is misleading

Agreed, i didn't say it was old stock however i just indicated that it wasn't the latest model. If all the features that are wanted are in an earlier model then it makes sense to go with it but it was more of a heads up just in case people didn't realise. I did vote hot as well as it is a good price. i paid £629 effectively with the £100 cash back on the V model when it was £729 so just £125 more and it seem to hover back down to £729 occationally. .

Doubt they would state one specific address if they have multiple brand / hardware-specific providers. They have quoted UK returns for quite a while and just change the appearance of the info page / date, archive example from Nov 2014: https://web.archive.org/web/20141127204137/eglobalcentral.co.uk/ret…tml . The EU site has quoted UK returns from at least June 2014.

Very rare you see this camera below £530 to £540 so £499 is a "bargain" for this camera.

Good price. Worth the extra over M2 due to wider zoomed in aperture, viewfinder, 180 degree screen tilt, ND filter, and improved video.

A used M4 for a bit extra may be worthwhile if high frame rate video, 4K, and very high shutter speeds are of interest.
I have the RX100 III and it's a great camera. I use it more than my DSLR.
Love my rx100 iv
this seems normal price now looking at Amazon, Jessops and Currys, but with John Lewis you have a real store to use and 2 yr guarantee which is good.

Getting a 1in sensor size into a body this small with a decent lens would be near impossible, the closest camera in that regard is the RX1 which is a compact camera using a Sony FF sensor although it's bigger than the RX100 and has a fixed 35mm F2 prime lens. More information on sensor sizes here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format#Table_of_sensor_formats_and_sizesIn terms of the RX100 vs a micro 4/3 camera, it depends on what you want to do with it. I bought the RX100 purely as a pocket camera which I find it superb for, it offers just the right balance of size and image quality. I'd previously used a Panasonic micro 4/3 camera but even with a prime or pancake zoom I just found it too bulky to keep in a jacket pocket.

Thanks for the info, really helpful...90% of my photography is travelling/backpacking so size and weight are important for me too...

Just recently upgrade from an eos m to m3 which is perfect for me as I can fit it in a small waist bag or my jacket pocket when I'm in travel mode...just came back from a 10 day trip, and realise that most of my images would have look a lot better if they had the more depth a fast lens can give than the standard kit zoom. I had a second body with me, a xt10, with couple fast mf primes that took some good photos, but its pain swapping primes all the time and is a lot bulkier than the m3.

For a moment I thought that the rx100 can combine narrow dof in small size...
