Desktop PC for music production

Posted 20th Mar 2023
I'm looking for a new desktop PC with 8gb RAM and ideally i5 for music production for around £300. I've found a decent monitor, has anyone got any suggestions or recommendations?

If you looking for new, you probably need to spend £350.
You will get Ryzen 5 5600g or i5 10th gen for that

I'd look at refurb Ex-Corp Dell Optiplex PC's from the resellers on eBay....loads of them for sale and will save you a lot of cash on buying new.

Very reliable workhorses, millions sitting on desktops and factory floors around the world.

Consider this if you OK with used.
This CPU release Q1 2022, this PC is about 1 year old.

May I ask what sort of music production? 8Gb of RAM is not a lot for many DAW's, you might want to increase it or at least buy something that allows future upgrade.

I also have to ask why Windows? My daughter's doing music production at Uni, and the 'standard' seems to be Apple. I realise it's probably twice your budget, but would an M1 Max Mini be a better option?

Oh, and a decent sized SSD for either Windows or Mac would be a good idea, my daughter is battling against 256Gb of storage simply because a handful of sample libraries takes up a huge chunk of it.

A Mac Mini would be better suited for music production - the software has a free trial: apple.com/uk/…ro/

That video demonstrates a 2012 Mac mini is still useable today - it can be had for around £100, the latest Mac Mini is around £600, however you can get a slightly older model well within your budget (although going PC or Mac you still would need to purchase the production software which would be about £200 + plug-ins) (edited)

You could place a bid on this, I've searched the serial number and it still has over 2 years of manufacturer warranty left: ebay.co.uk/itm…660
