Introducing a new way to discover Vouchers

Posted 3rd Jul 2023
We have some exciting news to share with you! As you may remember, we previously announced that Pepper and Global Savings Group (GSG) were merging. One of GSG's areas of expertise is generating comprehensive lists of voucher codes and this is something we had previously relied on external partners for. These voucher codes are carefully searched and verified, providing valuable savings opportunities for our community.

While some of the more generic vouchers may not be directly relevant to the community, or considered as exclusive deals (such as a permanent 5% discount for signing up for a newsletter), they can still help you save a bit on your purchases. We believe they have a place on Pepper.

Previously, you could find these generic voucher offers on our merchant pages. However, based on your feedback, we realised that they sometimes got in the way and weren't always useful when you were browsing for fresh and exciting community deals. Nevertheless, they are incredibly helpful if you're ready to make a purchase, especially for newcomers. We always love welcoming new members, and one way to find us online is by looking for vouchers. However, we recognised that mixing both experiences wasn't ideal, so we decided to separate them.

We've been working closely with our new colleagues to provide you with the best of both worlds. We have introduced new merchant pages that will feature the more generic voucher offers, and we have also improved the search experience for those who want to explore the fantastic deals our community has found for a particular merchant.

To find the new, more generic vouchers, you can simply navigate to the main menu. We have added direct links to popular stores and a dedicated section where we have organized the voucher codes. Just click on the "voucher codes" link to access them. You will also find links to these pages in various widgets, such as on the side of the homepage or on category pages.

For community-posted content, you can use our search function. Select the desired store from the drop-down menu while typing, or enter the merchant's full name and hit enter. You will also find links to community deals in the descriptions and listings of various deals.

We have also made improvements to the search result page when you search for a specific merchant. Now, it displays all the deals and vouchers posted by our community. You can easily search for deals or vouchers, check out the hottest or most recent deals, and more.

We encourage you to take some time to explore and let us know what you think!

Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. We're continuously working on better ways to help you find relevant content from merchants, and we believe that your input is essential in achieving that goal. Once we gather your thoughts and feedback, we'll be able to make further improvements based on your needs and preferences to enhance your experience.

Customer Filter - Displaying 'All (Community) Vouchers' in chronological order

Thank you to for highlighting this option
For those members who would like the option to view 'All Vouchers' (Community) purely in chronological order for all merchants, please find a guide below on how to use the Custom Filter to view these results.

    1. Select 'All' view from the top banner options, then click 'Filter' and check the 'Switch Custom Listing on' box:

    2. Go to the 'Types' setting and uncheck all options apart from Community 'Vouchers'

    50508346-AA5CX.jpg
    3. 'Categories' section will be populated by default. You can delete categories if they have no interest to you. Community Voucher results are listed in chronological order by default.

    4. There are also additional Custom filter options for your custom tab if you would like to personalise results further:

The new merchant search pages are now live and focused on deals, making them easier to view and find. Also the voucher tab only lists the community vouchers now - no voucherbox or GSG which are on the new voucher pages.

It's good this hasn't been shoved in the same merchant pages as user generated content. The issue is that this site has been about cutting out all of that auto generated guff, and only sharing the actual deals - generic "offers" such as the below are only for affiliate clicks with no benefit to community - HUKD not having this is what sets it apart. Deals posted by real people if they believe there's an actual deal to be had, if there was no deal there would be nothing posted.

If I posted "Recently released playclothes, new relaunched childrenswear available now!" the deal would be removed by mods or if not, voted cold to oblivion.

And of course, this is a mere copy of the Daily Mail vouchers site, with different verbiage

Yet again you've absolutely ruined the user experience.

I mainly use HUKD on a desktop while I'm meant to be working and scroll for 'hot' and 'new' in each category. Now, I can't do that for vouchers.

Plus the font is completely different for the vouchers page to the rest of the site and it looks an absolute mess.
    jamie15's avatar
The font is different for a reason - GSG have just plugged in their same old voucher website into HUKD, they use the same vouchers and font for the Daily Mail. Funnily enough while the vouchers/text say the same thing, it's said using completely different words. Perhaps so the search engines treat them as unique sites?

    Spot the difference:

I'LL ASK ONE FINAL TIME, AND I DONT WANT THE REPLY TO DIVERT TO SCREEN GRABS OF WHAT I'M NOT ASKING ABOUT BECAUSE ITS NOW GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE I THINK YOU ARE TRYING TO DELIBERATELY MISLEAD PEOPLE WITH ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS NOT ACTUALLY ASKED.

WHEN I LOAD THE SITE UP, I CAN PRESS 2 MOUSE CLICKS TO GET TO NEW COMMUNITY DEALS, AND THATS BY PRESSING DEALS, AND THEN NEW.

WHY CAN'T I DO THAT NOW WITH VOUCHER CODES? WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN AWAY THE ONE THING THAT MADE THIS SITE DIFFERENT, AND ACTUALLY BETTER THAN OTHER SIMILAR SITES?
    Agge's avatar
Hey there! My name is Agathe and I'm the human being who made the decision to not keep the voucher-only listing. Obviously not a decision I took on my own, but I did green light that so let me hopefully answer your question directly.

First off thanks a lot for your feedback and for taking the time to browse a bit and give us your opinion. That means a lot and that helps us quite a bit too!

So, to the "why did we get rid of the voucher-only-list" question: There was almost no usage of this page. The very few people who did visit the page stayed on it a lot less than on any other page. That was it, literally: they clicked on the link, landed on the listing, didn't make any sense of it, left. On the other hand, the other list you mention (the one *without* any voucher in it) does get quite a bit of traffic.

On the other hand, as we were building this new space for vouchers, we had to make sure we didn't over-complicate the whole thing. If we're going to have a link that says "vouchers", and next to it another one that says "vouchers but not the same vouchers", no one would get it either So we opted for the option that makes more sense – not just from a user's perspective, but also from an SEO point of view (and SEO is a very important factor).

Now if you tell me what is your need for this page, that would help me understand. Do you check random vouchers and see if there is anything you can buy with it without having any set intent or need beforehand? Is that better for you than checking all the recent community offers (vouchers and deals together) or browsing by categories or by merchant?

Small update has rolled out - if you search for a merchant's name it will no longer automatically redirect to the merchant and instead work like before just searching the site for that word.

e.g a search for Dyson will now return hotukdeals.com/sea…son rather than the merchant's page. You can still go to the merchant's page from the search menu quick results:

Am I losing my mind or have you just added this in today? On the 'All' section, you can click on filter and then add a custom tab with the voucher section? I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday.

Really disappointing to see this, changing this site into a generic Daily Mail, Metro etc voucher site like the rest of GSG! We don't want to see the rubbish "save up to x amount" fake offers with no actual discount, they are glorified ads. Hiding community posts behind a search bar to prominently display the same generic auto generated GSG offers page is the opposite of what this site is meant to be about - user generated deals voted hot and cold.

It's clear what GSG have in mind for the site. From the constant mod SEO posts in discussions, to now this... just another site to peddle their promos.

I cannot stress how utterly garbage this is.

What a steaming pile of poo.

A 'new way to discover vouchers'? By removing the list of vouchers? What an absolutely brilliant idea.

I saw the drop down and thought what the heck is this.... paid promotions of merchants. OK whatever, there's an 'See all voucher codes' link, I'll just use that instead, extra click but who cares.

Nope! That isn't what the page is at all. It isn't 'See all voucher codes' page. It is just a longer list of merchants.

Where do I view the new vouchers? How does this enable me to discover vouchers? I have to decide what merchant I want to view first.

That doesn't let me easily browse a list and go 'oh look, cool, a new [merchant] voucher'. I have to now what, view every merchant every day?

Half of the listed items are not vouchers. They are deals.

Just like all the other useless voucher sites out there.

Another step in the wrong direciton.

Clearly the voucher section was working well before, as I am assuming that's where you found your cut-price UX team? (edited)

People trying to justify their jobs... changing things for absolutely no reason..

Site is becoming less useful each new iteration.

Unless i'm being really thick, it seems a new way NOT to discover vouchers.

How do i see all the vouchers posted by the community ?
    Sigma's avatar

All the vouchers linked to the merchant pages are community vouchers, and you can navigate to the merchant pages via multiple links on deals, featured areas and the main search.

whoever thought re-designing the vouchers page was needed has zero idea about their users! This is the first time in years i won’t be bothering to engage as much with hotukdeals. Can’t find the new vouchers, i like to scroll down and see what’s new. I also liked the discussions within the voucher section but again all gone!

The 'New' tab displays deals and vouchers shared by the community in one combined list. However, if you prefer to view new community vouchers, you can utilise the custom tab. Detailed step-by-step instructions on how to activate this custom tab option can be found in the top pinned comment within this discussion.

This redesign is awful. New page is unusable. Please revert to the previous design.

How do I view all the voucher codes from newly listed?
Basically I would like the old layout whereby you can view all the vouchers by newly submitted (latest submission at the top), i.e most recent (edited)
    Sigma's avatar
    Author
As Dan has mentioned above, the main listings (New, Hot, Highlights/For You) list vouchers and deals together in the order they are submitted for New; or in the order they become hot for Hot; or in order they are added to Highlights/For You.

    50505069-H0hh8.jpg
You can also view the community vouchers on the associated merchants page or filter on search results, for example.

    50505069-ycpP5.jpg
We don't have an: All > New > Community Vouchers tab now as such that lists just new community vouchers in date submitted via a main forum tab with no filtering.

The 'Voucher codes' link in the site header takes you to the new Voucher Page, rather than to a list of Community shared vouchers

    50505069-puGmW.jpg
Please continue to share your feedback, and if possible, provide further details about what you would like to see when viewing community vouchers and the reasons behind your preferences. We will make sure to pass on these details to the team. Thank you. (edited)

Hi, this is an example where I could browse the voucher section without being tied to a specific merchant and discover the following offer; judging by the heat given, many other people benefitted from it.

    hotukdeals.com/vou…029

I've tried to get used to it, but it's really bad. The layout of the previous VoucherCodes was useful and fitted in with what I want from HUKD. The new page doesn't have constant fresh deals, it takes away from the forum and community feel of HUKD and just looks like any another affiliate website that prioritises profit.

Have to say as a result of the change I've found myself using the site less as there's less useful content without quick access to the previous VoucherCodes page. (I understand I can create a custom page to get them, but that's not convenient at all)

The old vouchercodes page was a great chunk of quality unique content that I got from hukd. You can't afford to replace it with the new page that doesn't even look like it belongs on HUKD. If you need to drive more revenue you can keep the new one, but please return the old page as well! (edited)
