Disney+ is FINALLY coming to the UK

The digital streaming platform from the House with the Mouse is coming to the UK this March 24th. Disney+ will host thousands of hours of entertainment including movies and television. With an astounding 10 original movies and 25 original TV series' in the first year of its release. This new to be released content will sit alongside their already packed out library of 7,500 television series' and 500 movies!

If you're eager to get on this Disney train, you aren't the only one - Disney+ picked up a massive 29 million subscribers in it's first 3 months since it launched, that significantly impressive number was picked up whilst launching solely in United States, Canada, and the Netherlands on November 12, and then Australia and New Zealand on November 19th of last year.

Not going to be online? No problem - Disney+ will allow all active subscribers to download content that can be viewed offline for later access.

How much will it cost?

Disney confirmed in January of this year that a Disney+ subscription will be set at £5.99 a month at launch or £59.99 a year. 7 day trials will also be available for everybody on March 24th. The standard pricing for Disney+ also includes content viewing in both HD and 4K, something that Netflix charge extra for.

A pre-sale deal is now available to purchase until March 23rd offering potential subscribers the chance to bag an entire years worth of Disney content for a reduced price of £49.99 (equivalent to £4.17 a month).

IMDB - 8.8

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless retelling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.

The 10-episode scripted series, set as the real-life East High, where the original movie was filmed, follows a group of students as they countdown to opening night of their school's first-ever production of "High School Musical." With meta references and some docu-style elements, it's a modern take on the "classic" from 15 years ago. Show-mances blossom; friendships are tested, while new ones are made; rivalries flare; songs are sung; and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide.

Frozen 2 is coming to Disney+ three months early for some

With the launch of Disney+ on 24th March, expect to see similar/same for the UK.

netflix got some good competition. always good for the consumer

Having a dozen platforms with their own monthly subscription fee is absolutely terrible for the consumer.

After trailing disney life for a month I just don't have any faith in plus being watchable, a lot of episodes of series I tried to watch on disney life had faulty audio and it took hours to report the issue, customer service just kept circling it back to blaming problems with my device despite me proving endlessly that it was the same on every device and clearly server side, complained about having to pay to be their tech support, asked for money back but they have a zero refund policy, chased it through the bank as they never delivered a series I could watch as advertised.

I don't understand the concept of paying for customer service like that and don't believe that disney plus will be any more competent than disney life when it's taken so many months for the service to even reach the UK and anything that could have been watched in that time has had the plot revealed all over the internet, it's 2020 - delayed regional releases aren't a realistic selling point

Can you have different profiles that can watch simultaneously?

Ah, I called it everything you need to know and missed that major detail, although I'm not 100% sure about profiles.

"Plus, you can stream your favourite movies and series on up to 4 screens at once, so everyone's happy."

Edit: howtogeek just it's possible. (edited)

Disney Life is/was a godawful mess. Atrocious UI and couldn't stream for more than 20mins on my fire TV stick without it messing up.

Luckily Disney Plus looks significantly better and a lot more Netflix-esque. Just wish Amazon would sort their UI now as well.

Sky Cinema are still showing Disney films and have the premiere of The Lion King next month. I wouldn't have thought that would only stay on there for two weeks. So I would say that Disney + will not be the only place to see Disney content.

Netflix whips Amazon Video in terms of additional dubbed languages, and I would expect Disney have all of that already setup for the majority of their back catalogue. To not include it would be super cheap, and a deal breaker for me.

French , Dutch , Spanish and English atm. I suppose it won't be issue to add most of spoken languages as Disneys shows/movies are all available everywhere with dubbing/ subtitles ( at least in Europe).

What an absolute rip off for a poor selection of content for the price. Most of these movies will already be owned by anyone that likes them and they are not movies you watch all the time, making a monthly subscription pointless.

If The Simpsons is not included, which is the reason most people have this, why haven’t they lowered the price in the UK? Ridiculous.

None of what you just said is true. Try 5 years ago when people were complaining about £60+ Sky bills with packages fractured in such a way that you had to get them all to see everything. Oh, and it was a 12 month contract.

A ton of content isn't about to disappear from Netflix because it isn't there now. Not in the same fashion, limited release windows, etc. If I want to dip into it for a month or 2 at a time I can.

What on earth are you babbling on about. When did I ever talk about Sky? Why are you telling me what I said about multiple platforms being bad for the consumer "isn't true" because "Sky used to be bad"? Those are two totally separate topics. You might as well be telling me 2+2 doesn't equal 5 because the sky is blue.

Let me reiterate my point nice and simply. Netflix used to have many titles for £X per month. Now Netflix has capacity for less titles for £X per month as rival platforms are offering said titles for an additional £X per month. This means consumers have to pay £X + £X per month for the same content. This is bad and your opinion on Sky has nothing to do with any of what I've said.

Is Netflix better than Sky was? Sure. When did I say it wasn't . That's an entirely different discussion that I was never talking about. (edited)

Excellent post. Thank you for taking the time to compile it all. I'm …Excellent post. Thank you for taking the time to compile it all. I'm especially pleased about the Roku devices. It is terrible for the consumer to have multiple subscription services to keep track of. Amazon, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Now TV, Sky TV, BT Sport, Sky Sports, Britbox, YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music... We don't have enough time to watch everything so it's a better idea to be completely lacking in loyalty and chop and change between each service. If you don't you could quickly find yourself paying out £100 a month!

I think you've gone a bit over the top here:

If you have Now TV, you can avoid Sky TV, Sky Sports
You only really need one music streaming service from Apple, Spotify, YouTube

Whether or not this is "terrible for the consumer' is very dependent on what's consumed. It could be argued this gives more choice for the type of programming people want. And as you have pointed out, you can dip in and out of services as it suits you, rather than being tied to an 18 month contract. So watch some movies and series on Netflix, cancel, do the same for Disney, Prime, Now TV, Apple TV...rinse and repeat. For around £5 to £8/month you could pretty much consume everything over time.

As an example, I've cancelled my Sky at £50/month, with various deals I've got NowTV with Cinema and Entertainment, £5 total for 4 months, I've got Sky Sports Mobile on my phone for free. Prime Movies was a bonus as I already subscribe for the free delivery. I have Apple TV free with my Apple Music subscription (it's also free for a year with a lot of Apple devices). I can get Netflix Premium via Turkey for about £5/month, or £5.99 in the UK if I don't need HD. And all of this is hosted on my Apple TV; very simple to switch between services, including BBC/ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5.

Horses for courses of course.... (edited)

From what I've seen/read so far - nope, at least not at point of launch

Thank you for your email. I have had a look into this for you.

The Disney+ application is not released in the UK until the end of the month. We are then working towards making it available for TVs on WebOS 3 and above. Looking at the model code you have provided you have WebOS 4. Therefore, the application will be available to you on release. This will be on or after the 24th of March.
To load it onto your TV you will need to go on to the LG Content Store once released and you can search for it in the search bar.

I hope this helps and answers your question. If you have any further questions do not hesitate to get in touch and I will answer them for you as best I can.
