My laptop worked fine for a few weeks but the developed an issue where it kept dropping the WIFI connection. I searched online at the time and discovered this was a common fault but I ran all the published checks (deleting registry entries etc) yet there was no improvement so I downgraded to Windows 7. A few months later I had another go and the same thing happened. Then I tried a completely fresh install of Windows 7 and upgraded it again but the problem still persisted. I reluctantly gave it up as a bad job and have avoided another upgrade attempt for over a year now hoping the issue might be fixed. Reasonably fresh posts howeveroutlining the same problem are still online and I am wondering if some sort of footprint may have been left from these upgrades which causes the problem to replicate.Any advice would be appreciated.

These problems are common and quite often appear after yet another one of the upgrades comes around. I have no end of people contacting me with problems of WiFi disappearing, Printers disappearing, other hardware breaking or even various bits of software being removed every 6 months.

If your Windows 10 has been activated properly, your best bet is to do a clean instal instead of an upgrade, that is the only sure way to tell if the problem is still around.

I've not seen the issue you describe but connecting an HDMI cable from my laptop to a big screen was not working properly. I fixed it by installing the Windows 7 driver for my chipset. You could try a driver downgrade for the Wi-Fi card.

Must admit it is much better than Windows 8 but pretty average compared to 7.biggest problem is patching seems very... Patchy. Number of things Microsoft have broken or removed without warning is ridiculous. Also their attempt to amalgamate tablet and pc still doesn't work with menus hidden all over the place
pedropecker46 m ago

Please can you explain why.

I've been on Windows 10 for a long time and I'm thinking about going back to 7 too. There are a few nice features in 10 but they don't make up for the BS they've pushed forward like the updates process, for example: They've taken away a lot of control from the user. I understand why - every time someone asks for help with their computer, phone, etc. I find many updates that haven't been installed but it would make more sense to be able to take more control if you know what you're doing - a kind of power user setting so I'm not being forced to install updates and restart when I'm not ready. There's also a bizarre peer-to-peer update system turned on by default.

If you use anything beyond the front end of Windows you'll also see another unnecessary layer of gloss on top of the settings you actually want to get to - meaning it takes longer to get to what you want having to go through glossy, contemporary menus just to get to the old 95/2000/XP dialogs where the actual settings you want are located.

I like the front end (although it seems half-finished since, for the educated, it's only a top layer) but ultimately it doesn't make up for these kinds of drawbacks where they've tried to push crap on me that I don't want or have completely taken away control.

Nope, not working for me either...

VTE is good racket if you have the arm strength to wield it (I had 4)... Going by stringing 22lbs, you may be better off with another racket

Edit: I say had, I actually still have, but I dont use it anymore- I am old weak and feeble now..

Edit2: Actually with a free thermo 9 bag its not so bad.. Bag would cost like £30-35 minimum. But again, I would suggest a different racket if you string at 22lbs...............

Not free, but pay once and go back as many times as you like for one year, at Eureka! The National Children's Museum.

Good for younger children as well. It's pretty accessible to a lot of the North being just off the M62 in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Been to several on here The Royal Armouries in Leeds is one of our all …Been to several on here The Royal Armouries in Leeds is one of our all time favourites - and is free all year round. Check on line with them as sometimes (possibly during School Summer holidays) they also have events in the arena outside - like medieval jousting, hawking/falconry display etc. Make sure you pick up that days timetable of events - little talks by R.A staff - often in full outfit (cowboy, hussar, medieval knight etc) who give a little presentation/show - suitable for all ages from primary school to Octagenarians plus !!Only downside is the issue of parking. There is a multi-story car-park, but last time I used it I felt the cost was exorbitant. But beware / be vigilante of parking in side streets. There are time restrictions most days, and weirdly, different streets have different time restrictions. I got caught out, so be warned !!R.A is brilliant though, lots of stuff inside for kids of all ages, and much better that their other more well known branch within the Tower of London - which of course is not free !!IIs a cafe for everything from an ice cream/coffee up to a lunchtime meal.Though you can bring your own packed lunch/picnic - and there is an area provided with chairs and tables for you !!So can be a really cheap day out if you plan/prepare.Couple of lifts means the building is fully accessible for pushchairs/wheelchair users.Railway Museum York and National Coal Mining Museum I would say are not that suitable/interesting for very young children - but might be the place to invite Grandparents along with older children. Not free, but I think a great day out for younger children is Magna Science Adventure Centre (Rotherham/Sheffield - just off M1/M18)If you pay for a day ticket to the whole complex, it says you can convert this into an Annual pass - which enables you to take kids to the outdoor play area, which looked fabulous, and on the summer's day we went was packed with kids having a fantastic time by the look of it.Under 2's free, 2-3 = £4.95 (for the year!!) 4 - 15 £9.95 (for the year!)https://www.visitmagna.co.uk/....... if you flick through their website you will see pictures of the outside play area.Maybe useful for people who travel up and down the M1 regularly with children (visiting Grandparents etc) - as a place to break your journey and let the kids use up some energy.andTemple Newsam (Leeds) - https://www.leeds.gov.uk/museumsandgalleries/templenewsamhouse/visitor-informationwhich has a farmyard area which the children will like. But I seem to remember there is a fabulous outdoor play area near the car park - which I think may be free.Perhaps other visitors may be able to correct me?!We went for the day and visited the house, gardens and Farmyard/courtyard shops etc, but I remember seeing loads of families, and Mums with kids parking in the car park and just making for the outdoor adventure playground.I cannot remember paying to park - so it could be free, and therefore the adventure playground free?Loads of grounds for families to have their own picnics - When we went it looked like some parents were going there straight from school/work for the kids to let off steam and enjoy the warm weather.

Yes some of these may not be suitable to younger kids. People should click the links before visiting to check opening time, and suitability.

Some people may prefer to visit without kids at all and avoid half term at all costs.

Temple newsam is free parking and the playground and park itself are free. Just have to pay to visit the farm and house.

Magna is great the annual pass makes it good value. The huge outdoor play area is excellent. You can also get free entry with blue peter badges.

The ones that come from energy companies have very strange firmware.

I got mine with NPower 2 years ago. 3 months ago, it kept popping up with messages about nPower, and about how they wanted to "monitor my use" and other strange things. I contacted nest about it and they confirmed they do indeed put a custom firmware on ones that come from power companies... and yes.. they share your information with that provider even if you leave them. It's in their T&Cs but of course nobody is going to read pages and pages of legalese when they buy.

So if you want all your energy useage / device usage / statistics sent to an energy company even after you leave them then by all means go ahead. But if this surprises you and you don't like the idea... don't get one subsidised by an energy company.
Not sure if still available, but I got a deal through TCB at Xmas for this but with £100 cashback as well. Tariff was marginally higher than some other providers.
Not sure what all the hate is about on here. I have just taken this deal. My current tariff with first utility was 5p more on elec per unit and .5p per unit more on gas.

Rates were

Electric - 14.97p pKWh - 33p standing charge
Gas - 3.02p pKWh 31p standing charge

The tariff in question was not available for me online, so i just called them. Took me through the quotes and based on my meter readings, it works out a couple of quid cheaper than my current tariff. That's because the standing charge is higher on the tariff required, but the unit rate is lower. All in all, its worked out cheaper than my current deal, and it comes with smart meters and a nest thermostat with installation. Yes, you might get a slightly cheaper deal from another supplier, but this seemed a decent deal to me, given that the best price for a nest with installation is about £270
