best kodi stick/box

33
Posted 22nd Apr 2017
I'm thinking of buying 2 Amazon fire sticks to play kodi on.
Are there any faster/better sticks available for this? The main purpose is to play kodi and I'm not fussed with Amazon prime ect.

Also are boxes a lot better than the sticks? I'm leaning towards a stick rather than a box due to the size but if the boxes are much better than sticks i may be tempted to go down that route instead.

Any help would be appreciated.

For the price the fire-stick is fine. If you wanted top of the range then the Nvidia Shield TV is the best one but is probably overkill if just using for Kodi.

Kodi is superb; it's the add-ons and their sources that can often be poor and questionable.

We find Kodi is very slow and often cannot find what we are looking for. Should we put on a more up to date Kodi. Would that make a difference?

Anyone else signed up to real debrid, I've found a lot higher quality streams and quicker loading times. Also some good 4K content...

Amazon Fire Stick maybe good but at anytime they can restrict its usage as sky has done with its Now TV box. At least android boxes won't have that problem. If you want to run the latest version of kodi you need a box running Android 5 and above. Also you can get quality streams utilising Openload

Kodi is absolutely amazing when combined with the correct sources and correctly altered settings. I have the amazon stick and tv and trust me the tv box is worth it. Also on a completely unrelated note real debrid is amazing and I can imagine if it was to be combined with kodi it would be awesome...I also hear that Dexter TV is a great subscription...but only through a friend.

Yea I know but a friend tells me that it's one of the best out there and it now has its own guide that updates itself so you don't have to faf around inputting new channels has they get removed.

    Are you using a Vpn?

A lot of people are struggling to find decent streams now, but that's pursuant to a court order, which was ruled in favour of major TV networks and internet network providers to have the power to block and soon shut down major streaming sites. Vodafone broadband is one of the first to block most of the streaming servers needed to play illicit content; you will find the other providers probably follow suit. It's been a hell of a ride and a sad day for kodi users.

i use Kodi all the time. Search for MAGELLAN, HALLOWTV, TEAMBLUE,LIVESTREAMSPRO,SPORTSDEVIL... you may need a VPN if you get 404s after configuration.

torrent streams (plexus,uTorrent) are top quality, just like normal TV.

i use it on my tablet, my pc and my phone...

Like I said previously If you are in the UK then you definitely need a Vpn, the trouble is that sometimes even the addons are blocked from receiving updates if you don't use one, that can also cause problems with finding streams. I brought one that was on special offer, it was a lifetime licence for around £50 lots of servers and the speed is great.

I don't have a VPN an have no issues getting all movie an TV content though the exodus add-on, cannot see what a VPN would add to the vast majority of standard users.

With your £50 budget you can obtain a box with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, dual AC wifi, bluetooth4, A6, 4k, x265 support fulfilled Amazon for £38.99 leaving a few quid from the budget for a beneficial rechargeable mini keyboad+mousepad with backlight and UK layout at £8.50 fulfilled Amazon limited-time offer ending 35minutes after this post (!), otherwise about £11 so still just within £50 budget

Good timing considering the generous spec, as the box price has now been adjusted to £51.

Nvidea Shield runs Kodi nice. You can also use it to play games and emulators. It's more expensive than a fire stick but I guess it can do more.
