Swap Displays Around Easily - Two Monitors, Two Computers

5
Posted 7th Feb 2023
Scenario:
I have two laptops; work and personal.
I have two ultrawide monitors configured one above the other.

Current Config:
Work laptop displays on the bottom monitor.
Personal laptop displays on the top monitor.

Desired Config:
To be able to easily switch the two displays around so that personal is on the bottom and work is on top and vice versa.

Question:
How would I best achieve the desired config? It is important that I see both machines on top of one another, I would just like to have the ability to use whichever is the 'desired' laptop at that particular time on the bottom (primary) monitor.

I thought KVM switch but I don't believe that would work as I hope above?

You either need two splitters, splitter from each laptop with hdmi to each monitor or an hdmi matrix which will allow more than one input. amzn.eu/d/f…EGW

Depends on the models but connecting both laptops to both monitors without a splitter would be best. So pc1 outputs say hdmi to m1 and usb c to m2 and pc2 is hdmi to m2 and usb c to m1 and use source buttons on monitor to change. Also remember RDC to remotely use the other pc from the first

A matrix switch is what you're after.

I have the exact same setup, I have kept it simple (or maybe complex, but I had to use what my office gave me)

Both laptops connect to respective dock when needed.
Each dock connected to both monitors (one with DPs , other with HDMI)

I just change monitor display to DP Or HDMI as per need.

I still have problem with keeping 2 pair of wireless keyboard/mouse. At some point I might think of solving that. (edited)

Thanks for the reply - not sure if it helps buy I use Synergy which allows me to control both computers with one mouse/keyboard.
