EBay seller query

18
Posted 15th Feb 2023
Hi I sold a item recently on eBay and it’s gone to a buyer with zero feedback but the account made in 2021 and i looked at the bidding and this person and another person who had 200+ feedback bid the same amount but it went to the guy with zero feedback.

Currently it’s been 6 hours and no payment or response from the buyer before shipping out.

My question is how much time should I give to the buyer to make the payment?

Is there anything I can do to protect myself if it goes wrong like the account of the person or such is compromised?

Plus I travel in a few days and worried if they make a payment but I won’t be able to ship until after my holiday. Then what do I do as they have a date it needs to be shipped by.

Thanks for reading and look forward to your responses

Ebay allows 4 days before you can cancel by selecting 'buyer has not paid'.
Until then you can send a payment reminder.
6 hours is not much time tbh.

Withdraw your item from sale; go on holiday; re-list when it is more convenient.

Cancel the sale and relist later.

If it’s an expensive item and you don’t feel comfortable, then simply cancel. If they do pay then make sure to send it via signed for delivery so there’s proof. As for no payment I think it can automatically cancel the sale after 3 or 4 days if no payment is made. Alternatively I’m sure you can offer the item to the next highest bidder if the winner doesn’t decide to pay. (edited)

Above £250 but if I do cancel on this bidder how do I get in touch with the other who bid the same amount

Why not message them and ask?

Could both bidders belong to the same person but the zero account is used to push the seller to offer to the next highest bidder at a lower price as a bargaining tool?

I think buyers have up to 5 days to send payment if I'm not mistaken, so why not wait a day or 2. But message them first. Then cancel the sale if you don't get a response. Always ensure you are fully insured with the postal company for the full cost of the item just incase and have tracking.

Cancel the sale and relist when the next FVF promo goes live.
