Steam Deck is it worth it?

Posted 4th Jun 2023
I would love to hear from owners. I'm thinking to buy Steam Deck and want to hear opinions of owners, is it worth it? I would love to install emulator and play pokemon games etc too, on top of the original title from Steam website etc. Is it worth the money? Thank you!

Can you connect a steam deck to the TV like a Nintendo switch?

I have a Steamdeck although pretty much only play standard Steam games and haven't spent any time customising it. It's pretty much exactly what I wanted as I can not only play my Steam games rather than buy them again as I'd have to on Switch but it also syncs the saves so I can play on the desktop or laptop then continue on the Steamdeck.

Portability wise something to be aware of is that it's much bigger than the Switch, not just width and height but it also has decent sized grips either size so it's quite a bit deeper as well. I find in turn it's more comfortable to use than a Switch but when I've been showing people the deck, they've been surprised at the size compared to what they thought it was. Also batterylife when playing the games I do is generally pretty short as well.

For my use I absolutely love it and it's been a fantastic buy but just to make sure you're aware of its portability issues.

Buy the cheapest, and then buy a separate storage card for it, its cheaper than the extra built in storage.

Also, I dont really use mine. I primarily game on console, but when I am visiting parents, or just fancy laying in bed, it is a good bit of kit. I never play anything substantial on it, I save that for my Xbox/PC, I just play smaller indie games that I would never sit on my sofa for - Enscryption, Disco Elysium, for example.

Its worth it just for Trombone Champ tbh. (edited)

I have recently bought it, in the long run it will save me money on games. I have the Nintendo switch, with this my library will expand 10x, I can dabble with pc games. I have heard other people play pirated games. There are additional cost on top: I bought screenprotector, sd card, ifixit kit and I am looking into buying a Ssd for dual boot. If you like or need to have a portable gaming device and you play a decent amount I think it's worth it.

I have a steam deck. I’m allergic to faffing about and setting up emudeck and getting Ps2, Wii, Gamecube, Ds and anything older was so simple.

I love the deck. I did no research and bought on impulse had since oct last year and don’t regret it at all.

I bought the middle value one and now I would buy the most expensive but only coz I love it so much. I didn’t have a steam collection before. Bundles are your friend.
