Google Workspace

Posted 7th Jun 2023
I used to run emails free from my domain name through Google G Suite.

They have now kicked everyone off and asked them to use Google Workspace so they can charge for it now.

is there any other way of doing it for free?

I use ZOHO free but it's only one mail account and you have to use their email app, which is sound to be honest

I had the same issue when Google made the change.

I now use Zoho with my personal domain and the family have individual email accounts. I set up an admin account then assigned used from there, so it can work if you need to setup more than one email address.

Standard freebie Google/Gmail a/c has 15GB free storage and aliases / external interrogation / forwarding etc that can be used with an external domain,
assuming free is more important to you than a formal contractual relationship limiting the operator's options to withdraw / bin the service at any time without liability.

Or add some contractual obligation by hosting your domain's mailboxes with a business mailbox solution and optionally use free Gmail account to access/manage the mailboxes to benefit from Gmail's spam filtering etc.
Random lifetime email (and web) hosting example was posted few days ago at under total one-off £20.
Currently £40 at time of this post 07 June 2023, but will invariably drop to sub-£20 (maybe even £10 again) soon if you're in no rush:

They have not kicked everyone off. I know it because I am still using it for my family, after having originally signed up over 10 years ago when up to 50 mailboxes could be set up free. I followed the drama closely last year when they originally announced the plan to start charging from July 2022. At the last minute however, Google relented and allowed accounts to continue free but only if there was no commercial use and the number of mailboxes was up to 10 only. There was something to be done in the billing section to enable this; don't remember it as it was a year ago. The product is also now called G Suite Legacy Free edition and is no longer available. Full info here. (edited)

I was only kicked off 3 weeks ago.

They have repeatedly told me that even as it is for personal use it won’t be free.

I’m still in the process of having to change the administrator to me as the person who set it up for me isn’t around any more and neither is the recovery email.

They are completely useless at customer service.

Is there anywhere else that does free basic website hosting?

Does anyone know how to configure Zoho to allow my emails to work?
