VOIP advice please

Posted 29th Jun 2023
Hi
Unfortunately in the past 7 weeks my mother and my aunt have died. They lived together and died aged 94 and 93 respectively.

The thing is I want to keep their number for a while so anyone that calls I can inform them of their passing.
I had literally just got my aunt connected to Vodafone broadband which I think takes her number over to the voip systems before she had her accident.

What i want to know is what is the best way to mange her phone number using voip and whats cheapest way aswell. I realise I'll have to port her number away from Vodafone because I can't add it to my broadband because I already have voip with Vodafone. I only want to receive calls and won't be making calls using the number.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Sorry for your loss.

Can manage a geo landline number via Voipfone at £3.60/m inc VAT with no other mandatory fees to receive calls.
Zero cost to port-in to Voipfone, who have porting arrangements in place with most providers.
    voipfone.co.uk/PB_…php

Consider that the donating service (Vodafone?) may interpret the port instruction as early contract termination with any associated early termination fees - may depend how the donating service interprets deceased accountholder options, assuming the donating service is pre-informed of situation.
May also be difficulties with showing suitable authority to port number if the port applicant is not the donating number accountholder. (edited)

I'm extremely sorry to hear of your loss particularly to lose both your mother and aunt which I can't imagine what it's like.

I've found the following UK forum extremely helpful for dealing with VOIP and other services in the UK:

    ispreview.co.uk

Sipgate used to offer a free service but unfortunately it's not available any more, I think the next recommended one is A&A which is around £1.50 a month:

    aa.net.uk/voi…on/

I've not used A&A myself so I'm not sure what they support but I'd expect you'd be able to use the number with an app on your phone if that's what you wanted and would likely be cheapest. I ported from a BT landline to Sipgate and have an adapter in the house to run a landline through it (around £40 it cost), I had it set up on my phone for a bit as well which worked fine but only had it set up briefly as I don't normally use the number.

Another plug for voipfone. Good service and reasonably priced. They managed to port a virtual Call Sign number from BT despite BT telling me it wasn't possible.
