In car satnav

Posted 3rd Jul 2023
Hi all…
My father in law bought an citroen cactus about 5 years ago, he says the in car satnav doesn’t work anymore because it needs a update from citroen (which is very expensive). I asked if he meant the maps needs updating, obviously for new roads and things but he says the satnav no longer works at all.
I don’t drive so have no clue but this sounds odd. I thought you might have to buy up to date maps maybe but the satnav would still work.

Thanks…

Satnav updates for the uk are usually free via a pc download onto a usb. Have you actually looked at the satnav yourself? Is there a fault code? More unfortunately is needed to understand

No not looked, he’s not very good with tech but won’t be told about anything so just gathering a bit of information before i get involved.

Updates are free. I have a 2017 car (not Citroen) and the updates are done over WiFi for free (edited)

Usually car's come with free updates for x years, then you'd have to pay after that

Yeah, but it'd be very unusual for the system to stop working entirely after that ends. It definitely sounds like there's crossed wires somewhere here.

Thanks for all the info…I don’t generally get involved unless he asks but he said it will cost £260 to get the satnav bit working again, which sounds fishy to me. Will have a look next time I go round.

With Citroen you have to download the software on your PC/Laptop, put it on a USB stick and then update it that way. That's what I have to do with my C3 Aircross anyway, you need to get the Citroen update program, add the car to the program, download the update and then put it on to a USB stick. 50509227-hV7B9.jpg50509227-LY4Vh.jpg
