Petrol particulate filter

Posted 19th Mar 2023
I mainly do city driving which mens periodically I get the warning light come on saying my ppf needs cleaned. I can usually do this by driving 60mph for about 30 mins but with the cost of fuel & factoring in the time element as well as unnecessary milage it would be preferable if I didn't have to.
I've seen there are products available to reduce this happening but not sure, can anyone offer any advice? Like where do I add the product too & how much. Also can I add it now whilst the light is on or do I need to clear it first then add it to prevent it happening again.

Every time you get on the motorway stay in 3rd gear getting revs up and go steady for 30+mins
Maybe 4th gear will be better however keep revs up so it blows it all out.
Need to do that a few times a year. Won't cost much and maybe make a trip out of it to somewhere different for weekly shop or garden centre.

Only way I know to stop the problems (edited)

Didn't even realise this was an issue on petrol cars. Good to know, although in 25 years of driving I have never had this issue.

I had same issue recently albeit mine is a diesel’ gave the car a good 15 minutes run on the motorway and added a bottle of dpf additive to 3/4 of a tank and light hasn’t been on since.

So really no internal combustion engined vehicle is now suitable for short journeys..

Almost like they've designed it this way...

I get this nonsense with my delivery van twice per week because im driving local streets 40 hours per week, really frustrating having to do 2 runs down the motorway for no reason and losing time when i have jobs to complete to get my bonuses

We have this one van in the fleet that always needs regens. We do have the software to regen in the yard though so just do stationary manual regens takes about 30/40 mins just need to remember to get them upto temp first.

Tend to use it on my car too as I only do about 20 miles per week and it never gets motorway miles anymore.

Used to clear mine regularly from mostly town driving. Key I found was to keep the revs above 3000 for the 20/25 mins needed. It didn't matter which gear/speed combo - just must keep above 3000 at all times
