Dads - stroller recommendations?

Posted 29th Mar 2023
Hey,

I’m supporting a Dad at the moment who needs a stroller for his youngest. Been a long time since buggy days for me. So I’m left scratching my head on what’s a good type of umbrella stroller for him and son.

One thing I do remember, was the horrendous back ache from low handles and he’s 6ft 4. So I thought I’d ask if any tall parents had any recommendations for a good one? thanks!

Edit: (useful comments thanks I’m an idiot!)

Youngest lad is 3.

So looking for more a when he gets tired easy to fold and throw about buggy.

Dad is now in a tiny studio with 3 boys from 3 to 10 so it can’t be to big to store or live in the boot of the car.

I’ll be trying to source things second hand off the marketplace or buzzing round charity shops today as there’s other bits, clothes, toys, sleeping stuff I need to try and source and I don’t have a great budget and on a time limit for the weekend so they’ve got some set up at least.

How old is the "youngest" rather importantly?

He’s 3. Thank you that was such a bleeding obvious miss of information on my part.

Honestly. Lose my head if it wasn’t attached. (edited)

One other thing that I'd consider is how easily it folds down. Can it be done with one hand? Does it fold down small enough to easily store in the car at home?

For recommendations, I'd pop into a store and try a few out. When we were looking at car seats the salespeople at John Lewis and Mamas and Papas were great. Knowledgeable and not pushy in the slightest.

Cosatto Supa Stroller for me. Interesting, funky designs and very well made with great features. We bought ours when our youngest was very young as his pram was too bulky for a trip. Didn't go near the far more expensive, cumbersome pram again! I'm 6'1" and had no issue. 4 year warranty too and it's very good. We'd a few minor issues that were really general wear and tear - rip in raincover and a split handle grip, no issues sending us replacements under warranty. Not having any more, but if I did I wouldn't bother with a pram again and go straight for another Cosatto Supa.

We have the woosh XL (cosatto.com/col…fox), bought specifically for airports as one hand close and lightweight, but our son is huge and already a bit big for it at 16 months!

We used travel systems at first, all cosatto wow (cosatto.com/pag…w-2) or giggle (cosatto.com/col…nds) as the only real difference is the frame, we had our son just after covid restrictions so a lot of hardly used gear around for sale! Picked up 3 full travel systems for about £120 in total, so one frame stayed in the car, one in the living room and one in my office. We just moved whatever he was in between frames as needed, the pushchair is still in my office as he sometimes sits with me and watches cartoons on the other computer while I work.

Now he's bigger though he's mainly wandering about, we've switched to a bigger offroad pushchair for outside (Hauck Runner - argos.co.uk/pro…768).

No idea yet if we're having more so my attic is filled with gear he no longer fits in!

Originally we got a full travel system thinking this would be best - its far too much, big (/takes up alot of space) and heavy.

We then picked up a Joolz Aer which is similar to the babyzen Yoyo - these would be our recommendation especially useful for travelling! (edited)

    You mean pushchair?

Yes pushchair/stroller/pram I think. Just realised stroller was probably colloquial to my region!

Hey OP, it's lovely that you're helping out a clueless dad. I would definitely recommend the Baby Jogger City Mini. It's a one hand (very easy) fold, handle height is big as it's a 'round curved handle) light as a feather to push even with one hand and a 5yr old sitting in it, let alone a 3 year old. Have a look at you tube vids. They've rocketed in price in recent times, but can get just as good second hand. The city mini GT is slightly heavier but has off road type tyres and suspension? It's a smoother ride- but both really good. Seat reclines and has a massive hood. Check it out- best of luck.

We just brought a Cosatto whoosh Xl and my husband is 6’5 the handle height is great for him. Pushchair is super lightweight and folds down with a press of a button. Folds down super small. Is a great buy

Should say this pushchair holds up to age 5/6 my 11 month old loves it and falls asleep very comfortably. My almost 4 year old also sits comfortably in it too
