PC profile copying software?

Posted 19th Jun 2023
Hi all,

I was recommended a program on here years ago when I upgraded a hard drive and OS that copied my profile from the old PC, settings & data and allowed me to import it on the new HD, but, I cant for the life of me remember what it was called!!

Any suggestions from you clever lot would be awesome

Could be PCmover express. I think that took over from the old files and settings transfer wizard.

Looks like the "Express" version doesn't do application settings "Home" version is £28 or "Professional" £48. (edited)

Macrim will clone the whole drive if that's what you mean. Just copying a user profile is a bit different (and complicated if you want settings for third-party software on a completely different PC).

Unfortunately, it wasn't Macrim. That really would've made life easier!

    Thanks for the reply tho

If it was years ago then Laplink was the popular one, more recently it might have been Windows Easy Transfer which was built into Windows Vista to 8.1

I'll have a look for laplink, thanks.

Definitely not easy transfer, it was a third party app

I've just used Windows Backup and restore to create an image.
Booted new pc into the recovery partition and then restored the image.

Worked absolutely fine and no faffing with "free" apps.

TransWiz? Or if you can find a guide, then Microsoft's USMT (User State Migration Tool). This is part of the Windows ADK.

    This may help? Link
