Can you use a tent tarp as a bike cover?

Posted 23rd Jun 2023
A lot of the reviews for bike covers I've seen say easily teared and thin material which disintegrates in the sun. I was wondering if a tent tarp is suitable as it's stretchy and waterproof and designed for mostly all weathers. They usually come with eyelets or attachment at the corners so possible to tie it around the bike at the bottom. For example:

You can use plastic Tesco carrier bags if you want.

We have bought a few covers for bikes & it is a case of buy cheap buy 5 fold. We found that keeping the bike out of the wind prolongs the life of the cover.

Whether it's a cover for a bicycle, a barbecue, a table tennis table, a sofa, a mobility scooter or whatever, you're going to have to replace the cover every season or two.

Could you build a structure instead?
Imagine a set of nesting tables that are joined with drawer runners.
Roll the structure to the bike, and the extend it. More secure against the weather, and it can touch the hot pipes without issue. And on a cold Winter's day there would be no faffing with rope or bungee
