What flowers/foliage to plant under common cherry laurel hedge?

Posted 29th Jun 2023
Hi team HUKD. I have a hedge that looks a bit bare up to about 50cm off the ground and I'd love to fill it up with some flowers/foliage as part of a long term project. I think it could be the cherry laurel hedge but I don't remember seeing flowers or fruits. TIA for your help

I don't think anything will grow under it as it will be too dry and shaded. Can you post some pictures? May be you could put some membrane down and fill the gaps with stones or slate chippings? Or possibly some log roll to hide the gap?

Add Hypericum onto your list to research.

Get rid off the edge is possible. They grow massive and will soon take up everything you got. I've seen laurel 30ft +

Vinca minor. Beware though it might spread via roots so it might need some maintenance to control.

Alternative is to go to try some ajuga. I'd prioritise stuff that is evergreen perhaps and has interesting foilage colour for interest. Flowers are great but most stuff that does well in shade typically doesn't have great flowers or they are fleeting.
