Confused by Eon Next energy prices

Posted 1st Oct 2022
I am changing to the Next Flex next week, I am confused why the rates don't reflect the price cap. Could anybody help me understand. From the Eon Next website:

"customers paying by Direct Debit will be limited to 34p/kWh for electricity and 10.3p/kWh for gas, inclusive of VAT, from 1 October."

Electricity: Next Flex

Starting on 08/10/2022

51.82 p/kWh 49.17 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)

Gas: Next Flex

Starting on 08/10/2022

14.82 p/kWh 28.48 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)

Because its the price before gov intervention.

Thats the price, we're just getting it subsidised to be paid off in taxes for the rest of our lives.

General consensus on the eon next forum is be "patient" the price should change to reflect the october cap eventually, and it allegedly is already in place but online accounts will show the original cap price until its updated.

    Pretty poor imo.

No actual official word from eon next at the moment, beyond what's written there.

Not even going to bother trying to contact them, it'll just be adding to the queue of people with the same question, and won't get answered by the rep on the other side, especially as Saturdays contact is only whatsapp/social media. (edited)

    Pretty poor imo.

Seems very odd that they wouldn't make the effort to update their tariff rates, or at least email their customers with the unit prices they'll be paying, rather than created a host of worried customers, many of whom will now be besieging their support staff.

I'm on economy 7, so have no idea what my daytime and e7 night rates will be.

I'm wondering if the company is in difficulty, they haven't even fixed the make a payment option on their account portal, or removed it and it has not worked for some time. (edited)

Seems pretty straight forward to me. The prices are as stated, but those paying by direct debit will be charged the capped rate.

It’s completely disgusting and immoral that this basic info has not been corrected on all those on the variable tariffs . Vulnerable people who’ve checked their rate with E.on in the last two days must be on their knees with worry . It’s bad enough for the rest of it. Unless they fix it blood will be on their hands . People will turn off everything and risk eating gone off food and the like or Listeria in their tank water because they can’t heat it.

I went on the v14 tariff in readiness for the price increase in October, then the government put their price cap in so I was going to switch to the next flex but the unit rates they quoted were higher than the fixed that I was on (£279 p/m on v14 and £355 p/m on flex) confused the hell out of me! Thought I would be paying less! This makes sense now! I’ll be switching to the price cap now!

Basically if you were on the old next flex standard rate it was 27p kWh now it's 34p Kwh because it's capped.

If it wasn't price capped it would be 51.82p kwh

If you know your average kWh usage which will be on your bills etc you can work out how much it will cost you.

    Eg.i use roughly 100 units a month on electricity so 0.07 x 1200 = I pay an extra £84 per year.

Next year if price cap goes to 0.54p kwh it will be an extra £240 per year for me. (edited)
