Help! Virgin media mess - No access to NTL email, cancellation in progress

Posted 25th Apr 2023
Hi all,

My parents have been with Virgin for over a decade now, even so far back, that they still have a NTL email address tied to the account!

They have been paying £61 for 250mb broadband & phone for a good 8 or 9 years now. Yes, they have been rinsed. Anyways, on the recommendations here, I rang Virgin on their behalf and tried to negotiate. They best they said they can do was £35, which was terrible, so I said go ahead with the disconnection.

I live with my parents now, and the plan is to sign up on my name the day after they terminate the service.

We've been given a disconnection date of the 30th April (so this Sunday). Now here is the issue. My parents have been doing everything by paper, and we have access to the myvirgin page (where the billing is) because they have their NTL email on the account, and know the password but no access to the email mailbox.

1. There is Zero mention on the my Virgin media page that a cancellation is going ahead. All the billing is like normal. However, they got a text saying sorry they are leaving, and disconnection date was the 30th.

2. Because we don't have access to the NTL mailbox on the account (it won't let me log into it, says not set up), I can't see any docs they have emailed about the cancellation. No letters have come through re a cancelation.

3. Woman on the phone said disconnection date is on 30 April, and the final bill will be on the 10th may (I will need to pay around £120, and they'll refund me £61)

BUT, my parents have just received a bill saying 'billing period 30 April -29th May' - How is this supposed to work if the final bill is meant to be on the 10 May, and disconnection date in a weeks time?

I feel like I'm just going in blind here. My personal email address used to be on the account, but somehow it's defaulted back to the legacy one around 3 years ago. If they ask for equipement back via the NTL email address, we can't see it, along with any other stuff they may have sent.

I hope this all makes sense. Basically, 3 weeks ago we put a cancellation in and have received ZERO comms - is this correct, or am I meant to be getting emails or letters?

Is there a way to see all correspondence that was sent to me on my Virgin media? similar to British gas ect?

Just for clarity, we recently cancelled virgin due to moving & the service not being available and similarly heard nothing. Checked via WhatsApp and they confirmed it’s due to cease tomorrow. They did state they would send a collection box for the equipment but we haven’t received that either - yet.

If they’ve confirmed it verbally, that should be sufficient in theory. Assuming your bill being received is likely due to the monthly billing cycle and you should receive a partial refund for the next period.
