And texts, just switch data off use Wifi and voila Smarty.co.uk

Should be sorted now, Go Binge launch meant as your bro said backhaul bandwidth had to be sorted ASAP (via its joint venture with EE, MBNL), although EE and Three site share the bandwidth to each transmitter is paid separately I understand. Glasgow has one of the best Three network of base stations as they set it up like that with customer services there as Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city so it was £ in the bank. Some base stations came down after the T-Mob merger to MBNL but most stayed up as T-Mob had few in comparison to Three.

For a fiver trial you can always port out, no worries.

I’m gonna get my mate on this she’s paying £10 a week on Three payg

Actually tempted by Smarty (recent thread about them on MSE forums.moneysavingexpert.com/sho…019 ) though they run on 3. Will have to check, as I'm pretty sure my brother had problems with 3G/4G coverage in Glasgow. You can keep your old number help.smarty.co.uk/get…rty

Edit: Brother said (about 3), "That was over 3 years ago now, think coverage is much better now as they were due to upgrade their bandwidth".

A paltry extra 1GB isn't going to sway me to double my spend. They don't do anything well anymore. They aren't cheap, unlimited, fast or novel. Not competitive compared to things like Smarty either. No offence OP. I'm just pretty unhappy on GiffGaff, the offer is pretty miserable compared to what I first signed up to.

I agree, actually - I joined 7 or so years ago and it was the Unlimited Data (£10 Goodybag) that clinched it. Can't remember what the original call minutes were, though.

I never use up all my minutes quota, but I'm usually pretty near my data allowance by the end of the month. The free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls for three months after a Goodybag expires, is probably what makes me stay.

Their online support forum, as mentioned, is pretty horrible. Maybe slightly improved as they tightened up the rules around reward points/free credit, to members who are actually informative and helpful, but you still have to wade through a lot of doggy doo before you get to any useful replies.

that days of giffgaff being good value are long gone I'm afraid....

True. I was on board at the start. Sadly the dream died quickly. Once I was banned for using too much data on an unlimited plan I gave up and moved to Three. So much happier and it's been quite a few years now.

Maybe they have changed? Ruined their names without me though.

Sadly I don't think this is a deal but like it was said, maybe it can save time for someone.

One of them could not be recoverd as the ram chips crapped out about a week after warranty period finished. The other one screen gave up, and had to be replaced. Both were in slightly "rougher" condition than advertised. Beware.Personally I would go for NEW if its only 20% difference.

I would personally just have paid with credit card. Then if they fail even outside of the warranty period you can get your money back as they are "not fit for purpose" under section 75 of your credit card agreement.

Thanks for the reply. Quidco only offering £25 now but Topcashback are £45.

I'm looking to purchase the phone as a gift. I'm already a giffgaff customer so don't need a goodybag but I'm assuming it would be worth my while to purchase a £10 goodybag to enable the extra £40 cashback.

I'm hoping you don't have to keep purchasing over 3 months to qualify.

Interestingly TCB state 30 days wait for bonus activation and that purchases prior to 06/11/17 had to wait 90 days.
I haven't had the £40 yet but I tried to raise a claim but it's still within there timeframe so can't be resolved yet
Did anybody have any luck with the cashback?
I'm already with giffgaff would I have to buy another sim to get the £40 cashback?
@james_rowe @knuckless69 same with mine, I suspect the following terms on Quidco might mean it's a three month wait for the £40...

"Important things to know...

  • ...'Activation' cashback will track into your account 90 days after your original sale has updated to 'confirmed' "

Anyone know if the use of "genuine" on the GiffGaff Quidco options equates to a SIM being activated and signed up for one months goody bag only, or is it longer?...

For starters, this is cheaper on O2. I agree with DembaBa, this is not good value, 50 quid is far too much for such a low spec entry phone. If you're prepared to pay this, spend an extra 20 quid and get something half decent. If an additional 20 is too much, get a similar spec Pixi or something, no point paying for the now gone Moto brand name and screen issues.

Because all the used S6 handsets we've had through the business have had some element of screen burn - usually the top bar slightly etched onto the display, it's barely noticeable (as the bar is generally always there) but AMOLED has a very finite life, things like Google Maps always-on usage or using it while charging accelerate it. I didn't say every device anyway, it's perfectly possible your wife's S6 Edge is fine but I wouldn't get a used AMOLED phone again unless it was really cheap (not to mention if you break the display for any reason the phone is essentially BER as the display forms part of the chassis).

9gb of data for £18 from an mvno? Not good value

It's classified as PAYG not pay monthly.

Also the GoodyBags are only valid for 30 day rolling contracts, so you're not tied into a 12 month contract.

Example on EE:

3GB data on a SIM-Only 12 month contract is £19.99
2GB data on a SIM-Only 30 day contract is £20.99
5GB data on a PAYG plan is £15

Tesco Mobile on a 30 day rolling contract is £18 for 4Gb or £23 for 6Gb - also on the O2 network like GiffGaff

So 9GB of data on GiffGaff for £15 on a 30 day contract is good value.

Plus you can change your plan every 30 days to take the higher or lesser data tariffs as you wish without being tied in for 12 months, or having to call a number everytime you want to make a change.
Comparison

Giffgaff has the same speed as O2 and dispite what people say (or think) they do not slow the speed down compared to O2. I'm waiting for my 12 month contract with BT to end so I can switch back to giffgaff.

All depends on many many different factors.....

I've had a refurbished phone from GiffGaff. It turned up looking absolutely brand new. I'm still using it 2 years on, and have never had any issues with it. I'd buy refurbished from them again without hesitation.

Love the modular idea and looks like a decent implementation of it too...

I had a Nokia 3220 many years ago which has modular backs.
It seemed great and they promised lots of different shells but in the end they only made 1-with LEDs on the back (although you could use it for waving your drink order to someone at the bar)

Vodafone Blade A512 looks like a better bet if you require UK support (2 year warranty) for the same price (as Vodafone upped from £75 to £79 to £99) assuming you are forced to buy £10 top up (ask nicely if you don't want it - works sometimes). If you can cope with the possibility of no warranty the Xiaomi Redmi 4X or Redmi Note 4 is a much better spec for similar money.
