That's a Shame for the staff. Bought some decent electrical items, watches etc from there over the years

Sainsburys are getting rid of all the stores and only want them within Sainsburys, they had planned to keep hub stores open for deliveries but even most of them are closing. Daughter used to work for them while st uni and about 4 months ago they decided in a couple of days her store was closing and they had the option to transfer to stores 20 miles away.

With this you could see them getting rid of the eBay store as it didn’t fit with their plans. Staff were moved to Sainsburys contracts earlier in the year, were already worse off, overall, less breaks for a few pennies more, so many were already leaving.

Can't imagine it's very cost efficient for them to sell on ebay. Hopefully they open their own outlet website. Ebay charge too much in selling fees.

Some of the warehouses are closing too. Partner works in one and staff only know it's closing between August and February sometime, most still no idea when their jobs will actually end

Large volume sellers like Argos will likely have negotiated fees. The outlet was useful to get rid of returns and required a distinctly separate setup so that people who visit the Argos website aren't tempted to buy the cheaper returns.

Sixty Argos employees look set to lose their jobs as a warehouse in Swansea used for its Ebay sales is poised to close for good.

The retail chain's former High Street unit closed as we knew it last year, with Argos relocating to Sainsbury's in Quay Parade.

But few probably knew that the unit in High Street continued to be used as a warehouse for Argos to process the Ebay sales side of its business.

But staff have told WalesOnline that they have been informed they are set to be made redundant on March 6, 2022, as the company plans to "simplify" its business so that customers can now only shop within Argos stores or its website, with the eBay option being discontinued.

It is understood there were over 60 people working there, with duties of picking and packing orders for the Argos store on the Ebay website. Some have already left for new jobs but the remaining are thought to be staying to accept redundancy pay.

One staff member told WalesOnline it was another job losses blow for the city.

They added: "It seems that when we made over £50 million for the company last year during the pandemic it doesn't matter to them and they are going ahead with the closure."

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury's said: “As part of our plan to put food back at the heart of Sainsbury’s, we are simplifying our business so we can focus on what matters most to our customers – lower prices, exciting new products and convenient ways to shop.

“To deliver our plan we must prioritise what we do. We have started talking to our colleagues about what this means for the future of wholesale and the Argos eBay store. We know these conversations may cause uncertainty for our colleagues and we are committing to support them.”
