Looking for UK classic car collectors advice.

I need to know the year this licence plate is please: it's either BPM 218 or BPM 210, it's from an old photo and slightly illegible. I'm guessing 1940-50s? Thank you.

    Not quite true, the individual authorities only did that when they exhausted the existing supply, it wasn't a big bang & therefore authorities with less vehicles would have done it later than busy ones - eg E. Sussex (quiet) & London (busy).

    You can't without consulting the records of the issuing local authority - if they exist, as it's post 1932 (given that it starts with 3 letters - which were assigned to individual authorities, in this case East Sussex) & pre-1963, they just issued the next one in sequence. (edited)

    Neither of those reg numbers are on the DVLA database so I guess unless you have a V5 accessible you would be reliant on the date stamp on the makers plate on the chassis/engine.
