This, the self install really is just plugging it in and powering it up, you can’t really go too wrong.

That phrase is typically to dissuade elitists who otherwise (unreasonably) expect the service provider to attend the premisesto simply plug a cable into a socket or similar. It also tends to discourage casual calls for assistance where the muppet customer may have forgotten to connect an item to a wall socket and throw a switch, etc.

Obviously if you have a disability and are, for example, unable to read / follow a (relatively) simple diagram and / or have limited manual dexterity then a provider will show great flexibility - when informed of that disability.

Now that when O read instructions I realise that virgin media socket is not there as there is only BT/sky one. Probably previous owners when refurb the house they covered/removed virgin media socket. Does that qualifies for free engineer visit for installation? Or do I have to threaten them to quit ?Read lessRead more

In this case I’d ring and state the fibre connectivity doesn’t appear to be there. Hence self install wouldn’t work, an engineer will have to attend and install the cabling as necessary, I highly doubt they’d charge for this as it’s usually bundled with a new connection (albeit their records state the previous homeowner once had a connection).

you need to get in touch with them, because if you don’t have the virgin media connection it’s Coax (like a Sky dish cable) they will have to pull one in.

If you mean you only have a BT socket for a landline phone: you don't need one, so no issue, it's still self-install.

Call them up and tell them.

When you are placing an order an order on the Virgin Media site, if you select damaged socket, that in turn then generates a free engineer visit as part of the order.

A BT/Openreach phone socket will be no good for a Virgin Media service.

I remember when I had VM, the hub was connected via COAX cable, and my phone was actually plugged into the hub, making the phone socket redundant.
