Bag size if flight operated by different airline

Looking at a flight to US where outbound is BA but the return is operated by American Airlines. This is bookable directly via BA.com.

The max BA cabin bag dimension is slightly larger than AA and i have one of those cabin bags that is exactly the max size. However, will it be allowed on the return flight as i booked via BA, or will AA refuse me?

Tried calling BA but they don’t want to take calls on whatever option i select.

thanks

They will charge you for it (edited)

The airline operating the flight decides this, not the one that sold the ticket.

Surely you would take a bag that satisfies both airlines size criteria?

Yes obviously if it was a booking with two different airlines via a third party travel agent.

The return flight however also has a BA flight code as well as AA’s code so a code share flight with AA operating it. Another reply suggests i get BA’s allowance because of this.

no issue taking a bag that meets both but if i can take my max sized bag, all the better. (edited)

We did a BA out and American code share back last January and as the flights were bought through BA the tickets were issued with their baggage allowance.
