Hi All,

Thinking about buying a breast pump. Can anyone advise or recommend the best pump.

Thank you for your time.

Interesting forum for this one. Assuming it’s whilst breastfeeding. The medulla swing is rated as one of the highest. My wife used for all three children. Often on Amazon for £75 ish. Can pick up secondhand ones (don’t be grossed out it’s constantly sterilised during use) just make sure the tubes haven’t got wet (will show mould). Try gumtree or ask a mate who might lend one. Often children centre allow you to hire for free for a few weeks to see if you get on with them and they give you new suction cup etc. good luck.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience. Ideally, buying one pump is sufficient or is it necessary to buy 2 pumps? In real life do mother's use both pumps at a time?

If you are not sure, you used to be able to rent a Medela one from the hospital. see how you get on.
You shouldn't need 2 pumps and some are dual so can express from both breasts simultaneously.

Always electric! The Medela swing takes mains supply and batteries, so that a bonus. Look at second hand and sterilise before use. Saves faffing about borrowing etc. There's the smaller 'electric' pump (not swing) much cheaper and just as good for mew mums. Best of luck. It's a hard slog, but only for the first couple of weeks. A doddle thereafter. Best of luck, wishing you well.

Our child didn't latch so we tried a couple - pumped for a full year, and now pumping again with second child. Medela swing was highly reviewed so we got that - it was one breast at a time. Worked well, but in the end took too much time.

We bought an ardo dual one which pumps both breasts at the same time, cutting the soul destroying pumping time by half. Still using that to this day. Model is Calypso double. Ardo was the brand they had in the hospital.

I see that Ardo rent breast pumps, but honestly at those prices you're better off buying one and reselling when done. (edited)
