Loose Banana price hike

Posted 14th Mar 2023
Just noticed in the last few days Marks and 'Spensive/ Sainsbury's have ramped up the price from 78p per kg to 90p. No doubt the other big retailers have done the same. Shipping, oil and energy prices have all declined so what's behind it ?

They were running out of cucumbers last month, that's probably created a surge in demand for bananas

Maybe they are buying premium bananas because everyone else is selling stuff that never go yellow just a brownish green at the most.

I buy the Aldi “mini” bananas which are usually bigger than most loose. Don’t last very long but that’s fine as we prefer then very ripe…
