I should of took it to the checkout, the John West tuna steak was marked up at £1.25. The princess tuna chunks had been reduced to 63p, hopefully there’s a few tins left as they’re marked up to £1.25 rather than reduced to 63p.

phil.gerrard

Was marked up at 63p and popped into another Asda store today when out about 15mile from me n store yesterday and checked in there and they were 63p too but very little left in that store.

brychris

Was this marked up as 63p as it was marked up as £1.25 in my local

one of many things on clearance at the moment in Asda. Asda are clearing out lots of tins and packet foods. unfortunately all the tuna was gone in the 3 stores ive been to, most likely due to people clearing the shelf soon as they see them. they had John West mackarel and mackerel spread at 50p though

You must have been lucky. They discontinued the 4x160g last year. Now 3 cans and only 145g all for the same price (at the time, they've since dropped). They cited the price of tuna. Now in fairness the price had gone up, a lot, almost double. But it has since fallen back to just marginally above where it used to be. Will they bring the old size or missing can back? I bet not.

mel1408

Cor blimey, how times have changed, not long ago (a matter of weeks) I could buy 4 x 160gm tins for £3 from Morrisons et.al. Foodflation metinks gone mad... ;(

End of the day it’s just tinned tuna. I can’t tell the difference between John West and the stuff from Aldi and Lidl. It’s not like it comes in a sauce with a certain piquancy that you can’t put your finger on.

plebbygiraffe

Yeah, they're also reducing the size of the tin too. So it is a double-hit. Less weight, less cans. Absolute con. I asked what the deal is. They claim it is because the price they buy tuna has gone up 20% in recent months. Yet they've effectively raised the price by over 30%. On top of that, the price of skipjack tuna, which is the type they always seem to use, has gone back down to levels lower than before it rocketed. You can bet we won't see 4 packs again though. http://www.atuna.com/index.php/en/trade/skipjack-tuna-price-index Suffice to say I'll never buy John West again.

matthew_legend

For info: discontinued product, they are reducing the pack sizes down to 3. I got loads from Sainsbury’s when they reduced them to clear to 50p a pack.

Yeah, Sainsbury's had the three pack for £4.50 but I didn't look at the weight.

plebbygiraffe

Noticed this in Morrisons. Not only have they changed from 4 packs to 3 packs, they've also dropped the weight - again. 145g now down from 160g. Basically the same size as the 'bargain/pound' shops. Guess what - still the same price. A double-f-word-over to the consumer!

I'll just remind you "The least environmentally friendly of all the Tuna Brands - could well be a combo of tuna/dolphin flakes. Shamefully bad in fact, and they have failed to deliver on repeated promises to improve fishing practices. Good price though, if you don't worry about such things." You probably would bore me to death, as if it was part of your degree (what in?) it was probably a right load of fish meal.

Auntie_Mabel

You seem to have a major obsession with Dolphins - let it go. I only used that as an example as the most high profile victim of the tuna industry. I could bore you to death with info on fishing practices and the impact on marine ecosystems (I studied it as part of my degree), but I really can't be bothered.

qbs

You're not even close to understanding the point I'm trying to make which is that you dolphin huggers don't seem to be bothered how any other fish are caught and focus in on tuna where Flipper might end up being caught. ALL fishing has problems of by catch. ALL fishing has an element of cruelty - inevitable when you capture and kill any living animal, yet you only seem to be bothered if Flipper is involved. And if you got off your sofa and did some research, you'd find that dear old Flipper is a fairly murderous individual, perfectly capable of killing his fellow dolphins as well as porpoises. He also tends to play with his food while it's still alive.

Auntie_Mabel

Cod don't live in the same environment as tuna, they live in cold water, and also in deeper water. Accidental by-catches from cod fishing are much less unlikely - the problem there is about the amount taken. Thats also the problem with some tuna, but another big problem is the dolphins/sharks/any large marine creature that shares the tuna's home, due to lazy/cheap fishing practices.

qbs

"other fish" was in the context of dolphin being associated with catching tuna, which is a fish.

Tesco sell whole fresh mackerel for £3.50 a kilo which works out cheaper and nicer ! 79p for 110g tin when 60 to 70 percent is fish works out at about £10 a kilo.

Ahaha "HUMANS EAT FIRST SUBSERVIENT ANIMAL"... *cough cough wretch*. (I should have said 'pet food-y smell') :D

sola35

my local morrisons stated they do not take self printed out coupons any more, its store policy, they was getting too many dishonoured by the issuing company's, so were losing a lot of money. not sure if this means all morrisons. for me, best place for coupons especially self printed has been tesco , i ve never had any problems.

BuckRodgers666

I’m more concerned about the fact you’ve eaten cat food :)

Ellendel

As a heads up, this stuff doesn't taste like Tuna mayo sweetcorn may that you might put together yourself. It's pureed, has a slightly pet food-y taste to it, and is often slightly discoloured in the pack/tin. Full disclosure, I would eat it again, but only in an environment where I have limited access to cutlery and a bowl etc. Otherwise you'd definitely be better off buying the three components separately. I feel like you'd end up paying less or the same per 250 grams as well (even at this price) - assuming buying john west tuna and some economy sweetcorn. Edit: all just my opinion obviously! :)

True, its the reverse for me. Plenty of Home Bargains but not many Morrisons, Also this is the standard price for Home Bargains, but like many things in HB you dont know how long they are in in stock for!

Morrison has more branches. I don't have a Home Bargains anywhere near but more people should be able to get to a Morrisons.
